People According To Harry Browne example essay topic

HARRY BROWNE THE MAN FOR EVERY TOWN Harry Browne was born in New York in 1933 and grew up in Los Angeles. Although he only attended college for two weeks, he went on to become a very successful investment advisor and author. Harry Browne believes that the government has blatantly disregarded the ninth and tenth amendments, which limit their size and power. He plans to drastically cut the size of government and let people make their own choices instead of politicians making them for us.

Harry Browne is the best candidate because he is a real person and not a career politician. He is just as fed up with the government as everyone else is and once elected he will make a difference. Harry Browne has big plans for the war on drugs, gun control and social security. Once elected, Harry Browne will pardon nonviolent drug offenders and legalize all drugs. This will set off a chain reaction that everyone can reap the benefits of. One obvious benefit would be the space made available in the correctional facilities.

This space makes it so rapists, murderers, and child molesters will be put away for a long time, instead of being released early to make way for the new drug offenders. Another colossal advantage would be the positive effect it would have on crime. Browne believes the crime rate would be reduced because the black market would cease to exist. If there are no black market drug sales then the drugs will become affordable for the users. If drugs become inexpensive then addicts would not have to rob, murder, and steal to support their habit. Browne was quoted saying "There are no violent gangs fighting over aspirin territories.

There are no violent gangs fighting over whisky territories or computer territories or anything else that's legal. There are only criminal gangs fighting over territories covering drugs, gambling, prostitution, and other victimless crimes. Making a non-violent activit a crime creates a black market, which attracts criminals and gangs, which turns what was once a relatively harmless activity affecting a small group of people into a widespread epidemic of drug use and gang warfare". Since the drug war started in the 1960's crime has become much more fierce. The only other time our country has seen crime of this aptitude was during prohibition. Another important point Browne speaks about is that for the government to ban alcohol during prohibition they had to amend the constitution.

If they had to make an amendment for alcohol then why didn't they have to, in order to make drugs illegal Having this been said, all of the drug laws are illegal and the government has no right to enforce them. Harry Browne's plan on drugs will make the United States a stronger and safer country. Harry Browne is a true believer in the second amendment, the right to bear arms. Most politicians today want to add to the 20,000 gun laws that are already on the books, but what does one more law mean, except for less rights for the common citizen. A question we need to ask ourselves is whom do these laws affect, do they affect the criminals, or do they affect law abiding people According to Harry Browne, these laws affect both sides because "Gun control makes the world safer for criminals and less safe for you". The way the laws are today, the criminals have the apparent upper hand.

Gun control laws don't apply to criminals or stop gun violence. They only make it a great deal harder for innocent people to defend themselves, which encourages criminals to take advantage of us. When Harry Browne gets elected, he plans to clean up the mess made by gun control. He will simply repeal all of the gun laws and truly give the people back their second amendment rights.

Harry Browne has very strong views about the social security system. He believes that it is out of control and will continue to be so until it collapses. Since social security was started in 1935, the tax has increased seven fold to a whopping 15% and he believes this will continue to grow. Browne's proposed solution is to get rid of social security.

By doing so people will be able to invest that money into private retirement funds, which will yield a far greater return. But there are people who still depend on social security and Browne will not let them drown in financial troubles. He intends to "sell trillions of dollars worth of unneeded, unconstitutional federal assets to finance the purchase of private retirement accounts for those who are dependent on Social Security. This would give older Americans guaranteed contracts with private companies that have never broken their promises - unlike the U.S. Congress".

This plan is very effective because everyone comes out a winner. Another big point is that the younger generations will pay into the system their whole lives and possibly never get a dime back. Harry Browne is the only presidential candidate who acknowledges the problem and proposes to do something about it. Harry Browne is the only candidate that wants to lessen the role that government plays. He thinks that we should go back to what our founding fathers intended for our country. A country where people have the right to make their own decisions depending on what is best for them.

Harry Browne wants to have a government that is not reckless and overbearing, just small enough to fit its constitutional requirements. Harry Browne has shown us that government should not rule our lives through his strong views on drugs, guns, and social security. Harry Browne is the only intelligent choice for president. If you love your country and not the government vote Harry Browne.
