The problem of uncontrolled population growth prompted the government of China in 1955 to begin a program that restricts families to have only one child. China is one of the most densely populated nations of the world. It has the largest population, estimated at more than 1.1 billion people. China's 9.6 million square kilometers (3.7 million square miles) gives it a population density of about 119 people per square kilometer (309 people per square mile).

But because the land is not all habitable, the density in inhabited places is much higher. By comparison, the United States, whose 250 million people live on a land area approximately equivalent to that of China has a population density of only 27 people per square kilometers (70 people per square mile). China is attempting family planning by only permitting 1 child per couples in urban countries. If that couple were to separate, they are allowed to have another child with their second spouse, if any couple should have twins they would be allowed to keep their children. I think this is fair. What I do not agree with is aborting a child that has is conceived after the first baby is already born.

That opinion is based on my morals; yet, the people in China may have different morals than I do. I think that there should be a family panning system but they should not limit children. There are other means by taxing families more if they have more than one child, so that it may prevent couples from wanting another child. China has an issue called "the missing girls". What is happening here is that many male babies are being born instead of the male and female births being 50/50. With trying to limit the size of families, many people would prefer a male to a female, so couples might be killing off their baby girls by abortion until they have a male.

There is a population problem, and we deal with it by better education about controlling women's fertility, by better health care and by raising the standards of living. The murder of children is wrong. The one child policy is wrong. Women are the main victims of this. Why? It's not fare to women who are forced to have abortions, the little girls who are left in forests to die, just because they are not male.

I think that strictly having boys might not be such a good idea for China. Yeah the outcome would probably help to decrease population, yet, it would increase the possibility of interracial relationships, homosexuality, or maybe the spread of more unknown diseases, and would possibly increase the population in other counties since men would want to migrate elsewhere to find a mate of the opposite sex. This might never happen, but if it does it would be a big issue. China's family planning system is supposed to help persuade women not to have more children than one. They give out contraceptives and help the women through abortions if they need to get one.

This is good, yet how are that many people going to reach out to billions of people that might be considering a second child? Parents are issued a card that allows them to have a child and to register the child legally. The child is granted with some benefits from the government such as free education, and priority to universities. I think that is fair to parents and children. I know that I would want my only child to get such benefits, I would greatly be satisfied.

The turn of it though, is that the second child does not receive such benefits, and actually gets the downfall of it all. Why would parents want to have a second child if they knew such things would happen to him or her? It is a sad situation that China has to face, yet if not solved, the outcome could be twice as devastating. As for the global population 'crisis'- the fact is that the world can handle a lot more people. What we should be worried about is the decline in the amount of children in Australia and Europe. Its going to change the economic landscape as young people are forced to work to look after an aging population.

We need to populate or perish, and that means giving more incentives to married couples to have children and that means letting more immigrants in.
