I was very impressed with the guest speaker that gave our class the presentation last week. It was informative and necessary for college students to be given the information that was provided. I live in a large suburban city outside of Detroit and all of the information provided by her was information that I already had. In another one of my classes the issue of Aids and HIV was brought up and one girl made a comment that almost made me cry because she was so ignorant. She said that we didn't need to be talking about this because no one in the U.P. has Aids or HIV. She just re-enforced what most people think of yoopers; that they are uneducated and ignorant. Obviously the U.P. isn't immune to anything, just as is the rest of the country. Like it was explained in class, STD's can be transmitted through body fluids. Everyone has body fluids, so the best thing is for you to protect yourself.
Condoms, dental dams and abstinence seem to be the best possible solutions. I look forward to hearing and learning more in this HP 200 class, I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience so far.
