The American Community in the 1900's to the 1920's was in fact a totally different generation than its successor not only because of cultural and economic reasons but also because of world events and the rise of technology. Americans in the early 1900's were a closely knit generation with a sense of community, morals, and obligations. They had an 'instilled's et of ideals and values and their lives were very much affected by the rise of technology. Living in America in the early part of the 1900's was a hard and trying era through such turbulent times as the Great Depression, World War I, and the Industrial Revolution.

Such profound and important events happened in a relatively short amount of time. Americans were searching for an identity for their country which was still only less than 200 years old. Big Industry was on the rise slowly and Americans were starting to contend in the growing world market. Throughout American history, people have fought for equality in any shape or form and the mid 1900's was no exception. Having gone through leaps and bounds in terms of civil rights. The 1920's to the 1940's was a transitional period for all Americans and minority groups.

During this period of American history, America was one of the most modern countries in the world but still facing economic turmoil. The Great Depression put most people out of work and made big businesses hit an all time low. Americans from every walk of life were affected by this terrible event. But the event that brought the United States out of the Depression could not really be considered a blessing.

December 7, 1941 was a day that changed the course of history and would plunge all Americans into war when a huge surprise attack was staged on the US Pacific Fleet by the Empire of Japan. Almost overnight the country was united in its stance against the countries of Germany and Japan. The government put huge amounts of money into the economy and Americans found it very easy for them to grab opportunities in factories and the armed forces. Although most Americans of this generation had been more successful than their predecessors they found themselves with many of the same problems. Americans would later have to face these problems during the 1960's but that is another story. 8.

The most important changes of the American community after World War II were a great number of occurrences such as the enormous growth of the American economy as a whole, which after World War II was the strongest in the world. Towns grew into cities and the quality of life for Americans was very high. Not only did the country prosper by economic means it was a pioneering into different fields of science such as research and development and had some of the most brilliant scientists working to improve the American way of life. With so much growth during the post war years, the normal hardworking American family had many luxuries that no other generation had ever had. Automotive industries such as Ford and General Motors brought the first automobiles to the American public and inventions like the television made way for companies such as Magnavox and JVC. The country was expanding at such a rate that it was hard for the economy to keep up.

Importing and exporting goods was a key in economic survival for many coastal cities and a market for American products was in high demand in many countries. During the Post War years, an ever increasing demand in military weapons research and development is conducted by many universities and is funded by the government, inventions like the hydrogen bomb and the guided missile are given top priority. Cold war tension increases, as in the late 1940's Communism increases into Central Asia and has Americas fearing another World War. The American family was effected by the political events at the time with so much going on in the world, government and state sought the support of the people and launched many 'anti-communism' campaigns to convince and have the support of the American public in its attempts to show its political might in the world forum. The United States after World War II was now one the strongest nations in the world and now could export its great abundance of political influence to shape and form the United Nations and have many loyal supporters.
