They try to talk their way out, but finally Kirk must fight a one-on-one, handcuffed, knife-fight, battle-to-the-death to win their freedom. Victorious, JT Kirk spares his foe, and takes a moment to explain to the locals that their SS sacred expressions are in fact garbled segments of the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, and so if you are all created equal, you shouldnt be fighting each other like this, damn it! Finally, Kirk taps his communicator, and Uhuru sees to it that they are all up-ge-be amt to fly off to their next wacky adventure. (3 comments | Leave a comment) ...
Aug. 20th, 2005 @ 03: 36 pm Yep, I just got into Slovakia (I skipped out on Budapest this time... ) and I just ate some delis ch (that's 'ice cream' for those just tuning in.) Im going to ride into Bratislava today, and its still up in the air as to whether I will stay there tonight or not, or just keep rid in. Yesterday i think i went about 150 km with a slight tailwind, new skinnier German Schwalbe tires that were made in Thailand that I bought in Godollo, Hungary for 16 euro, and some new bike shorts with a built-in diaper-thingy. All day there were menacing dark clouds all around me, but nonetheless the sun was almost always out for me... Then at about 7: 30 pm I was looking for a campsite as one such cloud started to push overhead.
I found the perfect spot, and had just started putting up my tent when it simply DUMPED on me. It rained hard for 20 minutes, and then stopped... just long enough to soak my tent and my clothes. This is what the chinese call 'very bad timing. Here is a lefty site with interesting info web now I want to bitch about all the perfectly plastic, , faux hawked, mullet ed, EURO TRASH!
Current Mood: pessimistic (6 comments | Leave a comment) Other entries quickeeIm about 100 km out of budapest, and I might just bike over there and take a train to wien like Leif did. Its been going well, and I have enjoyed zoning out on my bike on the BEAUTIFULLY FLAT roads of middle hungary. And the cars dont even honk at you as much here! Aug. 17th, 2005 @ 04: 30 pm (3 comments | Leave a comment) Westward Ho! he-ya!
We were kind of like cowboys, Chester and I. Riding around the countryside, cooking om a fire, making coffee by pouring hot water on grounds (with milk and sugar of course). But out here the wild is out east. Time to go back to the tame west. I should be back in Dresden on the 20th, and then fly to NY on the 26th, then fly to NM on the 5th, pick up my dog (I miss my baby!! !) and say hi to mom. and then fly home to MN on the 15th. Then take a well earned nap in my bed.
Hey chester, I was just thinking you should take a picture of some half finished, but clearly inhabited house. That is kind of a unique thing. I had a great time in cluj and then went to Budapest. Dude!! the train from Budapest to Wein is only 3 euro! its like 300 k for only 3 bucks!! I am writing this from Vienna (Wein), it is a rich, tourist cluster fuck here. Nice buildings though, you can tell this place was never leveled by war.
I miss you man, take care. You know; Keep the rubber down! Check out this dude from Minnesota, he bikes really, really fast. web 17th, 2005 @ 02: 37 pm (4 comments | Leave a comment) Sunny, with a chance of pork fat and moonshine Che here. 'How is it' Leif?
Still pushing along? Spectators, Leif and I have entered the solo round, as my colleague must return to Dresden post-haste. I miss our pancake breakfasts. Im about to leave Romania, and would " ve today, if it weren't for the darned hospitality of the Hungarian Romanians!
I went to a church in a small village right on the border of Romania and Hungary (right next to the city Or adea) to ask if I could sleep there... I could, in the yard in my tent, and a really nice young feller named Arpa d brought me to an AMAZING shower where I got extremely clean (I feel like some kind of businessman just from being so clean again.) By god! i slept like a million bucks, and had a dream about a magical chicken (dont worry, im actually not completely crazy yet... really, i swear!) And they let me wash my clothes and have been feeding me all day while I lay over. Yep, they " re pretty friendly here, to put it really dumbly. The subject heading I wrote is about this: often when Leif and I stop to ask people something, if they feel quite friendly they will offer us a piece of this think pork fat, which is something of a prized delicacy here. Leif and I tried it on our first day in Romania, when we were staying with Zsolt (who we met from Hospitality club) and found it really rather thick and blah and fat and, well... and then also there is the homemade plum schnapps, which it seems should be drunken as a rather large shot with nothing to wash it down, and probably on a very hot day, because it will give you the energy to bike fast!
Qua tsch!! Yes, but its really the thought that counts. Bye all! Aug. 14th, 2005 @ 06: 50 pm (4 comments | Leave a comment) long over due... Since last post Chester and I have biked about 1000 k to Siblu in the Transylvania region of Romania.
Last post was in Slovakia where the currency in Slovakian Kr owns, Ice cream is called Zmirslina, and the informal greeting is "Ahoy". So one night we were camping with our Swiss friend by a large reservoir above a small town. Not where I would put a lake but whatever. The moon hung right above the surface of the water and made amazing reflections.
That night I prepared "slightly burnt with garlic" and we took in a icy late night swim. I was sleeping very well until four in the morning when two guys in official looking dress walked right into the middle of our camp talking loudly. I thought they were police or some kind of authorities. Maiann was the only one who could actually communicate with them (the Swiss are so damn international. ), so she came to some agreement and men disappeared for a second, only to reappear with arm loads of fishing equipment. They proceeded to setup their poles and electric beeping gadgets about one meter from Chester's tent. Maiann said something like "what about us?" and the reply was "you are ok, you don't have to leave".
Every damn time a fish would tug at the line, this infernal thing would go beep-beep-. How rude. The Ukraine was the next country to feel our power. Because of the recent elections and transfer to democracy (it was big news people), for a period of a few months, an expensive visa not longer required to enter the county.
So we decided, despite everyone telling us we would be killed, to take advantage of the situation. It was our first, and only, real escape from the western economy and pervasive ways. If you wanted milk, you had to wait till the cows came in and were milked. Chester discovered he has no talent for milking cows. The people we met were shocked we were Americans. They actually jumped a little.
The region were in, sub-Carpathian Ukraine, was once part of Hungry, but was after WWI, Hungry was carved up, somewhat arbitrarily by the US and winners of the war. You can find significant populations of Hungarian people in all countries surrounding Hungry. So, more to come on Romain a and how frigging Awesome it is. and in local news; web story. asp? category = 1110&slug = Bike%20 Trail%20 Money Aug. 11th, 2005 @ 03: 00 pm (3 comments | Leave a comment) Train ride... Zep, weSS re in slovakia now, and the keyboard is a little bit wield. We have adopted an official team name at this point' Team Wounded Knee! So, today the plan is to go to the SS Thermal Pool! in the small town where we are, which is called Besenova 9 closed to Liptovsky Mi kula, for all zoo dedicated fans out there 0. We started out with a pair of Germans' the Clausner, but when we became team wounded knee, it was time to part, because they were pretty fast, and we had to take the train a bit (I do miss them though, as they were a fun couple of chaps, and good travel buds (... we trained and relaxed for a few days in the eastern part of the e ska republika... and now we travel Sat our own paceS S... and pancake breakfasts are good. I spent one night of agony in a hotel bed, with a pounding headache, and losing my lunch a few times... that was super awful, and i was pretty sure I was through, but not so! Actually, eating is generally pretty darn fun... and food is mighty cheap here in the east: we may just turn this into an eat = trip instead of a bike = trip... but at least the bikes will let us get from one supermarket to the next!
We have met a few interesting characters so far. In the small border town of Brusov, we met three charming teenagers, who were very eager to help us out, and so they found us a place in a hotel one night and the next day took us to the swimming hole. All in all, our tans are really getting awesome... though a bit... and were probably getting a bit better at bike = tripping as well. Hope you guys tans are awesome too " Jul. 20th, 2005 @ 11: 02 am (4 comments | Leave a comment) This is all I got today Image hosted by Photobucket. comjun.
1st, 2005 @ 03: 19 pm (5 comments | Leave a comment) (No Subject) So, a couple weeks ago, our Neighbor Jean came over and explained that there was going to be some sort of talk that evening in the Kunst passage (kunst means 'art'), which is a cute little passageway through a whole block here in the Neustadt (new city... that is, the lively part of Dresden... and where Stephanie calls home.) It was all a bit confusing, but the main idea was that: As the talk was somehow about Nazis or fascists or something, maybe some Nazis would show-up and try to give the lefty's a hard time. We went there, and everyone stood around for a long time. Then suddenly word starting spreading that 20 nazis were headed this way. I went out onto the street to snoop around a bit, and sure enough, down the street were about 20 corn-fed white-boys walking down the street like they had a job to do. But where we were, there were also a bunch of shady suspects, pulling up the hoods of there black windbreakers, and putting on large black sunglasses. Later on, I would learn that these were the 'Antifa' or anti-fascists... who were rather on the radical side of things... and who basically think that the Nazis should be killed.
Anyways, as the nazis (or fascists, or whatever they were) approached, suddenly there were about 50 of these anti fa chums around the street, yelling things like 'NAZIS RA US!' Then, one ran up to the nazis and sprayed him with beer. Then he threw the bottle... For a few minutes it was a chaos of smashing bottles, thrown rocks, pepper spray, and one of these big nazi characters even wielded an aluminum patio chair. A few people got seriously hurt, or so I heard, but I could believe it, as I caught a few glimpses of bloody faces and blood splattered on the street. Then, within a few more minutes, a bunch of cops in full riot gear showed up, and herded the nazis down into a small parking area... more to protect them than anything else. Then the ambulance came and tended to them before they were finally ushered away by cops.
Image hosted by Photobucket. com After the action subsided, the anti fas quickly transformed back into there fun-loving youthful punk selves. I thought it was funny how their accessories had been hastily stashed... This week end there will be a huge grassroots type festival in Dresden. Imagine mayday with 200,000 people and more beer consumed per capita then anywhere else in the world. The ice cream scene here is sub par, its expensive and generally not as rich as American cream. So Chet, and his quirky Entrepreneurial spirit, came up with this ice cream gig. here is an action shot.
