MILESTONE ESSAY In Macbeth, a play by William Shakespeare, the two main characters demonstrate strengths and weakness. Through out the play Lady Macbeth's early power and strength weakens. Macbeth starts out weak and needs his wife to lead him around then changes to the complete opposite and becomes king. The power shifts from Lady Macbeth to Macbeth. In the beginning of the play, Shakespeare shows the strength of Lady Macbeth and the weakness of Macbeth. The witches tell Macbeth that he will be king, All hail, Macbeth, who will soon be king.

Macbeth thinks about killing the King when the other prophecies fulfil. Then Macbeth thinks that he won t have to do anything to become king. If chance will have me king, why chance may crown me without my stir. On the other hand when Lady Macbeth hears about the witches prophecies she knows that they will have to kill King Duncan, she wants to convince her husband not to wait for Duncan's natural death. But she says Macbeth is too weak to do so, He is to ful o, the milk of human kindness. She hears King Duncan will be visiting their castle that night.

She immediately gives into the evil spirits, come you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fil me from the Crown to the toe, top-full of direct cruelty! Make thick my blood. This gives her the power and strength to tell her husband to kill the king. In the beginning of the story Macbeth needs his wife to encourage him that is what make him weak and her strong. Toward the middle of the play, Lady Macbeth starts to weaken and lose strength while King Macbeth is finding his.

Macbeth is scared that Banquo is a threat to his kingship when he says, Unsafe while that we must lave our honors in these flattering streams and make our faces vizard's to our hearts. So Macbeth plans to have his friend Banquo murdered. And with thy bloody and invincible hand cancel and tear to pieces that great bond. He doesn t want to have anyone or anything in his way while he is king. While King Macbeth is finding out how strong he is, Lady Macbeth realizes she is getting weaker when she says, tis safer to be that witch we destroy than be destruction dwell in doubtful joy. Macbeth is now using his strength to get done what he needs done.

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth have started to take on, as they re new characters now. At the end of the play, Macbeth who no longer needs any encouragement from his wife is ready to do anything to keep his kingship. He thought he was invincible when a ghost told him, Thou wast born of woman, but sword I smile at, weapons laugh to scorn, brandished by man that's of a woman born. Now Lady Macbeth has reached her weakest point,'s weak that she kills herself because she can t live with the murders on her conscience.

What' done can not be undone. Then at the very end Macbeth finds out that Macduff was not born of a woman. Despair thy charm Macduff was from his mothers womb untimely ripped. After he finds that out he and Macduff fight. No matter how strong Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were they were still mortals. Macbeth was weak at the beginning but as the play progressed so did his strength.

On the other hand Lady Macbeth started out strong. She manipulated her husband into killing king Duncan, and then told him how weak he was, My hands are of your color: but I shame to wear a heart so white. Then at the end of the story she was so weak she killed herself. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth learn a good lesson and pay dearly with they re lives, it was not right for them to kill everyone that got in their way.
