Poem Like The Heft Of Cathedral Tunes example essay topic
550 words
This poem is mainly about the power of light, what it can do and how it affects people emotionally. The Persona looks into the depth of field of what the light really signifies to a person who is emotionally hurt or in pain. The poet does not exactly view the light as being a savior to us but rather how it afflicts the personas suffering. The poets images are dark as well as glittery. The poet starts out their poem in darkness and gradually changes course and turns darkness into daytime and says how all this pain and suffering becomes nothing but a forgotten distance. He poet says in the first stanza there is something strange about the gradient of light during the afternoon, how it gradually goes from being daylight into darkness, a sort of incline ment of light.
The poet then says as the light disappears we get worried and troubled by the sudden change as if it were a heavy burden, or as stated in the poem, like the Heft Of Cathedral Tunes. Personally I think some people get frightened sometimes of hearing bells rings in cathedrals and churches, and having day turn into night at the same time would be even more scary so the Cathedral tunes are being compared to the bulk and weight of our worries. The second stanza says when this sudden change from daytime to night-time occurs, we are not physically scared nor mentally scared, we are only worried at that exact moment and once we do see sunlight again or normal light even are troubles are put aside and we soon forget about our phobia of darkness. We can find no scar but it still makes us think of many different ideas which sometimes are not even possible but at the rise of the moment we feel this ongoing and never-ending ecstasy of imagining things.
The third stanza says no one can change these internal differences for us, they are only spur of the moment times where we lose hope in everything as if it were a royal cause of suffering and pain. As if this single powe could reign over our reasoning. The fourth stanza is where the poet goes back to daylight and this shows that light is the one thing that saves us and make us feel safe from harm from any psychological interference. When the light appears all the landscape changes, it shines on nature and all wild things like animals appreciate it.
Shadows become unexistant. The poet personifies shadows to bring life to the poem and make us feel that shadows are demons or unholy creatures that get exorcised once light appears. And once light disappears again we are back to our mental trauma of fear. Darkness in the end is compared to death.
One metaphor used is that oppresses like the Heft of Cathedral Tunes. Another metaphor is in the last stanza where it says tis like the distance. The poet also uses personification; Shadows hold their breaths. This poem overall is about how light affects us mentally especially if we have been hurt by something or someone and we have lost all hope.

As probably any student, I was quite hesitant about asking somebody else to do my assignments at first. However, after EssayPride has sent me my first paper and I've read it, I understood that I could actually learn a lot from them. The research they've done was impressive and I understood the topic even better than after going to class and reading my textbook. I am not using this website to "cheat", I am using it as a tutoring service, they help me to understand the material better.
