Position Of The Buggy Every 5 Seconds example essay topic

520 words
Purpose: To determine a graphical and mathematical model for the relationship between position and time for a constant velocity object. Parameters: Battery, surface, level floor, and using the same buggy. Dependent Variable: The dependent variable for this lab was position in meters (average). Independent Variable: The chosen measurement of time in seconds (5 sec). Apparatus / Equipment: Meter Stick Buggy Masking Tape Stopwatch Diagram: Procedure: 1) Gather the needed materials. 2) Find a point on the floor and mark it with a piece of masking tape.

This point will be used as the origin. 3) Use the meter stick to measure a point tat is. 5 meters from the origin. This will be used as the starting point. 4) Prepare and keep available 5 pieces of masking tape that will be used to measure the position of the buggy every 5 seconds it is moving from the starting point. 5) Have one person prepare to monitor the stopwatch and tell the person marking each position at the appropriate clock reading.

6) Have another person start the buggy and position the front wheel behind the origin. 7) When the buggy's front wheels reach the origin start the stopwatch. 8) Every 5 seconds the person operating the stop watch should tell the person who is measuring position. 9) At this time when the person who is measuring hears that 5 seconds have passed they should quickly, but carefully, stick a piece of masking tape under where the front wheel is at the time. 10) Repeat steps 8 & 9 until the position of the buggy has been measured 5 times. 11) Turn buggy off at this point and measure and record the distance between each point.

12) Do all necessary calculations then organize and graph the data that has been collected accordingly. What is being measured is the distance the buggy has traveled from its starting point every 5 seconds. Data: (0 m = the origin and. 5 m = the start point) Clock Reading (sec) Trial 1 Position (m) Trial 2 Position (m) Trial 3 Position (m) Average Position (m) 5 1.72 1.62 1.65 1.66 10 2.76 2.60 2.59 2.65 15 3.89 3.61 3.49 3.66 20 4.84 4.58 4.53 4.65 25 5.81 5.51 5.48 5.6 Calculations: (1.72 x 1.62 x 1.65) / 3 = Average Position in meters after 5 seconds Relationship: The relationship between the two variables in this lab, position (m) and clock reading (s), is that when the position increases, so does the clock reading. General Equation: x = vt + x Conclusion: The relationship between the two variables in this lab, position (m) and clock reading (s), is that when the position increases, so does the clock reading. The slope in this case is the velocity in m /'s of the buggy.

Since we started the stopwatch at. 5 m from the origin, the y-intercept is. 5 m. The General Equation for this lab is x = vt + x.
