Power Over Rome After Nero example essay topic

Nero, his real name was Lucius Donituis Ahenobarbus. He was only 16 yrs old when he inherited his spot as emperor. He was the youngest person, ever to become Emperor. With the finagling, and deception that his mother Agripia had that helped. Nero was the last connection to Julius Caesar.

His mother wanted to play the role of the emperor; she wanted to control her son. Agripia wanted to tell Nero how to be ruler, how to do what she wanted done, but he was smarter than that. In 59 A.D. Nero had his mother murdered, and soon after that he had his wife Octavia murdered because she didn't give him a son. After doing this he married his pregnant mistress Poppaea. Nero poisoned his stepbrother because he was jealous of him. Nero did make mistakes during his time as emperor, but all people in power do at some point or another.

Nero was ruthless and sounds to be heartless also. If he even had a thought that somebody was trying to plot against him he would have them killed. It seems as though Nero always needed to be in control over everybody, and granted that emperors do control and rule the kingdom parse but needing to be in control of his loved ones if he had any. Nero, I don't be live wanted the position of the Emperor. He wanted to be a poet, and artist, and a chariot racer.

Granted that the chariot racing didn't come until later on it was still something that he wanted to do. He wanted to become Rome's best actor. He wanted to perform in the theaters so everybody could see him. The people of Rome looked down upon him for performing arts in a theater with the underclass people was unheard of, and unexpected of the emperor.

Chariot racing was also looked down upon by the people, because this was often a sport that the slaves would perform in, not the emperor. Nero was one of the only emperors that didn't want to expand Rome when he became emperor. The great fire of Rome struck on July 18, 64 A.D. and Nero saw the opportunity to make Rome bigger and better than it ever was. He wanted to make it a more beautiful place. People of Rome thought and blamed Nero for the fire that caused 70% of the city of Rome to burn to ashes.

Nero knew how the people felt about who caused the fire. He decided that he would blame the disastrous fire on the Christians. Nero had any relatives that could possibly claim the throne killed. Many of Nero's government officials wanted to kill him. They call this the "Piso nian Conse racy". Nero again went on a manhunt and had 50 people killed because he figured this out before they could carry this murder out.

The people of Rome couldn't believe this and thought Nero was crazy, kill before being killed. This was just unacceptable. Nero was basically unworthy to Rome so he left. This would eventually become the cause of his death. Some of the people of Rome as Nero herd were coming after him to kill him. Instead of being hunted down Nero decided to have one of his servants stab him.

He couldn't bear to have people hunt him down and kill him. Nero was the key individual in this document. He thought that he could do anything and nothing would happen to him. Well he found out the hard way that it wasn't true, people would eventually get back at him. He thought that he could sing "the taking of troy" while he got dressed into his morning clothes while the city was burning. He really felt that if he thought for just one second, somebody was plotting against him for any reason, that that person or persons should be fed to the lions.

Towards the end of Nero being emperor he really went a little crazy. He was killing off people left and right, and the sad part about it was that it really didn't matter who it was that he was killing. For goodness sakes if a man can have his own mother murdered and his wife murdered for not boring him with a son something has really got be wrong with him. Why wouldn't he kill anybody and everybody else that he felt like killing. Nero's mother was another key individual.

With her help, not to mention (not wanting it) Nero was given the job of emperor. She thought that she could control her son and tell him how to run the city of Rome. Nero, however figured out what his mother was up to and didn't allow her to control him, and didn't give her that freedom. Nero did as he wanted, and his mother finally saw that she didn't have any type of control over him and started trying to have a better relationship with Nero's stepbrother. I be live that Nero got jealous when he discovered that she was trying to manipulate the situation and try to have more of a relationship with his stepbrother than him, Nero wound up poisoning him. Nero's wife Octavia was killed because he was getting tired of her, and because she hadn't bore him a son.

Soon after Nero had Octavia murdered he got married to his pregnant lover Poppaea. Poppaea did in fact bore Nero a son, however their son died only three months after he was born. All of the Christian people in Rome were important because Nero needed to blame somebody for the great fire and he decided that it should be them. Corbulo's was probably the most important person besides Nero that was put to death. The people of Rome decided that Nero was really crazy.

Nero had Corbulo a high-ranking general killed, and if Nero had this man killed what kind of hope was there for them. Vitellus seized power over Rome after Nero had his servant stab him.
