President's Plan example essay topic

1,548 words
After watching the 2005 State of the Union address. I think that the President, Mr. George W. Bush, has made it clear to the Speaker of the House, Vice President, Member 4 rs of Congress, and the citizens of the United States that he has a clear plan to improve the welfare of the United States in present days and days to come. The President put forth that he has now a plan for a budget that holds discretionary spending below inflation, makes tax relief permanent, and to cut the deficit in half by the year 2009. The principle to his budget is", Taxpayer money must be spent wisely, or not at all". It was also stated that education is a very important part of this nation and that the standards of the schools need to be raised, .".. so every high school diploma is a ticket to success".

Later on he speaks of keeping young children and adolescents out of gangs and dangerous violence and encourages that more people be involved in a child's life by increasing the number of programs to improve literacy and sports. He told of the nation wide effort to do this that would be lead by the First Lady, Laura Bush. Also so the healthcare and costs of health care for lower income families was brought to attention. The President stated that the costs of healthcare should be made affordable to all families that need it. Stating that it should be available to people of every financial status and that there be a community health care center for every needy community. And that information technology should be improved so that fewer errors are made as well as needless costs.

He believes that there should be association health care plans for small business owners and their employees and many measures to decrease healthcare costs. The President talked to the Social Security system and how if it is unreformed that it will only lead to its own bankruptcy. He assured those that are now receiving or will be receiving Social Security in the near future that their Social Security would not be affected in any way. The President would like to prevent the deterioration of the Social Security system. According to the facts provided by the President, as of now there are a diminishing number of workers paying an increasing amount of benefits to an increasing number of retirees. If it continues to be like this in the year 2018 the system would be paying out more than it takes in and in the year 2027 it will put the government into a hole of two hundred billion dollars for Social Security alone.

By that time the only solution would be to dramatically raise taxes, borrowing, and cuts in benefits or government programs. He assures the people that he will not raise taxes and that all changes that are made will be gradual as to allow time for preparation. He states that he will work with Congress to come up with the best solution and, "I will listen to anyone who has an idea to offer". He suggests that there be voluntary personal retirement accounts. Under this plan set portion of your money would go to the people that are now receiving benefits. Another small portion is set aside for you to grow interest.

This way the money is yours and only yours and cannot be touched by the government. As I think it should be. This way if you would like to leave this money to someone you are free to. Up to thus far I think that the President has hit many bases that everyone wanted to hear and that appealing to people of all wealth statuses has also very well rounded him. I also approve of his plan for Social Security because I like the fact that the money that I set aside will be out of the hands of the government. He spoke of marriage being a sacred institution and a foundation of society that should not be re-defined by activist judges and how he supports and amendment that will protect it.

Also that medical research needs to be supported to improve our culture of life. He tanked Congress for doubling the funding of the National Institute of Health. I believe as he does that the medical technology needs to be increased but not at the cost of human life and as thus so human breeding should not be allowed. I support the President in his stance that human embryos are still life and as such should not be created for experimentation or for body parts and that medical study should be kept ethical.

Next the President spoke on the very important issues of terrorism, national security, and the U.S. military. He spoke of how measures have been taken after September 11, 2001 to improve homeland security and they will continue to do so. He also thanked those who are now working to keep our homeland safe. The protection of freedom is something that is very important and I think that all of the measures that have been taken in the way of antiterrorism and the pursuing of terrorists are necessary as well as the destruction of al-Qaida. The President urged the support of the military to support advancements made and to continue the creation of coalitions that will defeat the dangers of our times. The ultimate goal stated by the President is, .".. to defeat tyranny".

He spoke of goals to help create free communities and to not force the ideals of the U.S. on other countries while we help them gain their independence. I agree fully with the President on his stance to help spread independence to other countries such as Iraq, Palestine, and Syria. I like the idea of Iraqis being able to fight for the freedom of Iraq. I like this because I believe that everyone deserves the freedom that should have been given to them from birth but that freedom is not free and it needs to be fought for whether is by our military or that of another country. I along with the President fully support our active duty and retired servicemen.

I think it was good that the President recognized Safi a Tele b-al-Su hail as an example of an Iraq that is becoming evermore independent. And an = other moving moment was the recognition of the parents of Marine Corps Sergeant Byron Norwood, a serviceman who died in the service of the U.S. military during the Operation Iraqi Freedom. After the speech the Democratic Party was given a chance to present their views. The Democratic leader of the Senate, Harry Reid and the Democratic leader of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, presented these. They believed that the President economic policies are putting Americans further into debt. The democrats believe that by encouraging research and development in new technologies to help create more jobs that are kept here for Americans rather than shipping jobs overseas.

They also believe that health care should be made affordable to all people. They believe that, "Good, new jobs, world-class education, affordable health care-these things matter". They don't think that the President has provided real solutions. They don't agree with the President's plan to privatize Social Security because if this is done they say that the amount received for benefits would be cut by forty percent.

According to them the President's plan would put us into a record national deficit of an additional 2 trillion dollars to our existing 4.3 trillion-dollar deficit. They are in agreement though that the U.S. needs to be kept safe and they recognized the men and women who serve in the unformed services of the United States. The Democrats are shocked though that the President did not and has not thus far put forth a clear plan to end our presence in Iraq. They believe that one the responsibility of Iraqi security should be put in the hands of the Iraqis, two that Iraq's economy needs to be increasingly developed and lastly that regional diplomacy needs to be intensified. They also announced that although the President acknowledges that there is a threat to national security that he has taken no action to correct it. Also they tell of how the President has failed to present a plan to protect America from terrorism.

In summary the Democrats believe that the President has backed up his words with action and that they promise to correct this problem as best they can. In conclusion I agree with the President on many views because it seems to me that he has plans to improve the U.S. for the best. But I believe that even though there are conflicts in the views of the President and the Democrats that there will be a compromise that will result in the improved wellbeing of the United States..
