If you have not already heard pf private Simpson you would want to be reading on because he was one of the greatest Australians in the Great War. I talked to private Ryan one of the many soldiers Simpson saved from certain death at Gallipoli. I asked him how he met Simpson and he responded. "Well I was serving in the Great War at Gallipoli at the same time as private Simpson but he was a part of the 3rd Australian field ambulance. Our paths first crossed at the hospital on Anzac cove around the 16th of may when I was checking up on a mate of mine that that I had known for years and we both signed up for the war together and when I want to find him I heard from one of the doctors that he had died and I was devastated and that is when Simpson first saw me and told me that he died an honourable death serving his country and that I should get revenge for him by killing as many Turks as I can. Later that day four of us were making our way back down from the front line through shrapnel gully which is kilometres away from the Turkish front lines when some how one of the Turks was hidden up on a mountain and let loose his machine gun on us killing the other three people I was with and shooting me in the leg and as I lied there helplessly I saw Simpson appear out of the bushes with his donkey and took one look at the others that were dead and than at my leg and noticed that I was that man he saw earlier this mourning.

He than chucked me on his donkey and got me out of there and on the way back to the hospital he told me that I was lucky to de alive because I could have bleed to death and that my leg would have to come off. Once we reached the hospital he handed me over to the nurse and walked of with his donkey straight back up shrapnel gully to the front line. Since that day I tried to keep in touch with him but his superior officer did not know where he was and told me that he only reports back every few days. But when I found out about his death on the 19th of may 1915. I could not believe that such a great man could be shot and killed. I owe my life to him and I vowel to go and visit his grave every day at Anzac cove on the beach of Gallipoli".

Obviously Private John Simpson Kirkpatrick was a hero of the war and deserves a lot of attention, as this is the story of one of the many men he saved..
