About the only thing that you can customize in this program is the view. The funny part about this is that, the views that you have the options of choosing, are ones that Microsoft does not offer. Even though Word Pro doesn? t offer the extensive customization that word offers you really don? t need it. Word Pro offers extensive and very useful toolbar's that adjust to what ever you are doing in the window. When looking at the toolbar's, they are very thoughtfully laid out with only the functions that you use the most.

The other advantage of the toolbar's is that they are located at the top and bottom of the page, making the most amount of the room on the screen, instead of at the top of the screen, like Words default. Templates The extensive amount of templates that come with and that you can get for this program are amazing. There is a template for everything that you could possibly need. There are templates for Accounts Receivable bills all the way to a template to a fax cover sheet followed buy the fax. Using the templates is not all that hard either. It is basically point and click, follow the direction that are there for you and are easy to understand.

The best thing about the templates is that they all use a series of frames, which is very useful if you want to remove a certain section of the template, with out messing up the whole document. Object Insertion In this program object insertion is a little bit of a pain, you can do it, but for a person never using the program before, it will not only be frustrating, but it will also deter you from using the program. Unlike Microsoft's Word, it is not as easy to get to. Word Pro unfortunately also doesn? t support as many file types either.

On the upside, once you figure out where the function is in the program, it is not all that hard to work with. Formatting Options In this section, Word Pro is very competitive with Word. They both have the same options, like auto correct, although they may be called different names. They also have the same easy to find menus. The one thing that sticks out about Word Pro though is way that it displays the pages, you can create tabs so that you can jump from one section to another without having to scroll down. It is basically like a table of contents.

Compatibility As far as it goes here the program will basically open any format, and save as any format that is currently on the market, or at least what the other software packages support. User Friendly Here the program lacks, although the program puts it into plain English, for a user that has never used either this version or a version before this one, the help menus are a bit sub? standard. They are on the way to becoming one of the better sets, but still have to become a little bit more user friendly. To try and find how to do something is like learning a whole new language. Their help, windows although somewhat interactive, just doesn? t quite the passing grade. Obsolesce Word Pro has a new version coming out roughly every year to two.

The nice part about Word Pro is that there won? t be a new version, just because. There have to be significant new features that would warrant a new release. The advantage of not bringing out a new version every year means that your software may stay current a little longer. Even when a new version comes out to the market, Lotus offers a very attractive upgrade version for current users.

Product Support Word Pro has quite a few way of obtaining product support if you need it. There is the traditional way of using the telephone, there is the Internet and there is also a network that you can call for free and connect to, and all it has on it is information and technical support for Lotus Smart Suite, which Word Pro is part of. When it comes to the support side of applications Lotus really has everything going for them, even though they really only offer support for the average 2 versions down, but you can at the same time usually get information for older versions. Although it may take a little longer to get your answer depending on the situation, the technical support end of the software package is amazing..
