Some Rap Music is Pornography Webster's 10th Edition Dictionary defines pornography as " the depiction of erotic behavior intended to cause sexual excitement" page 570. My personal definition is any elicit photograph, story, drawing, song, phrase or words used to incite sexual fantasy. Also, pornography creates lust or demeans the God-given act of love or the human body! Therefore some rap music is pornography. The intent of the artist is determined immediately with the title of the song and sets the tone for the song to follow. First impressions are usually accurate and long lasting.

When a song has a graphic title, you can easily imagine the content and intent of the song. The title is considered to be the hook that captures the audience for which it is intended. The problem with Rap music is the intended audience. Most Rap music listeners are young adults and teenagers.

Pornography doesn't have to be visual it can be lurid or sensational material. The words in songs draw explicit pictures and create fantasy. While these songs may be reality to the artist they are fantasy to the listener and fantasy creates lust and dilutes reality. When fantasy takes over, our reality can never stack up to our new world.

The act of making love in reality will never be as good as we can create in our own minds. The largest sex organ we as humans have is our mind. When we allow suggestive thoughts or Montoya 2 songs to penetrate our mind, and then try to apply them, our real life can become disappointing. Word pictures are as pornographic as any printed material, and can be more explicit because we are allowed to interject ourselves into the picture more easily. When the pictures in our mind create arousal, the chemicals released into the brain act as a drug to satisfy the urge or arousal.

The release of this drug can create a rush or a feeling that can become addicting. I am not saying that Rap music can become an addiction, but the feeling it creates can. We may have to look for that feeling elsewhere to get the release of the drug into the brain. Songs like "Put it in your mouth" by Akinelye", How many licks" by Lil Kim and", Blow job Betty" by Too Short, all create an instant picture of sex and the sexual act. The words to these songs are even more graphic than the titles. They are more descriptive than any pictures I have seen; the only thing they leave out is you.

The graphic verbal description of sexual activity leaves nothing to the imagination. This type of Rap music is brash, rude and demeaning. This kind of pornography is nothing more than adolescent sexuality, high school kiss and tell, bragging on your conquests, or demeaning your partner. The morality in these types of songs is nonexistent, and they are politically incorrect.

Sex in its true form should not be brought down to the level of porn. Sex is a God given form of pleasure and used for reproduction. When we lower the act of love to lust, fantasy, Montoya 3 and pornography, we are disrespecting ourselves, our partner, and most of all God. Rap music is a tiny microcosm of the lives of the artist, and I applaud them for capitalizing on the world of music and grabbing their fifteen minutes of fame. Music is a form of art, and I admire any artist and their talent. The irony is that the pornography boosts sales and that is the name of the game.

I also understand an individual has a right to satisfy emotional needs in the privacy of his or her own home. How can anyone call this progress or empowering or revolutionary? Most of us to try to emulate our idols in one-way or another. God forbid any of our children have these artists as their idols.

The majority of the words in Rap music are personal boasting, threats, or sexual in nature. These artists need to keep in mind the audience and age group that are listening to their music. They also need to realize they are role models to these people. Not all rap is pornographic and tell the artists story in a civil way. Songs like "I can" by Nas and "Better Tomorrow" by Wu Tang Clan are more uplifting and less suggestive. Rap artists need to express themselves in a more positive way.

What kind of world would we live in if everyone were to announce their private bedroom behavior over the television and radio? That is exactly what these songs are doing in a very graphic way. The sacred act of marriage is no longer sacred; it has become commercialized and exploited. Also it has been made to look dirty.

The real act of love is not pornographic or demeaning it Montoya 4 is an act of passion, caring, and love, respect, and true feelings. True love does not need to be broadcast over the airwaves. Your private sex acts need to remain private.
