Professor Vetter English 102 01 December 03 Analysis of an Irish man foresees his death. The reading does not reflects accurately the author's intentions, point of view, or feelings. Instead, it portrays a poor analysis of the poem. The author does not reject humanity; he does not imply Irish people cannot be happy because of the landscape. In addition, he does not suggest society should share his own feelings towards nature. The reading suggests since the aviator neither love the people his guarding nor hate the people he is fighting therefore he has not ties to humanity.

This is incorrect for two reasons. First the words hate and love refer to his indifference to the war. He says he does not hate his enemies nor does he love the country he is fighting for. Second he is connected to humanity for he cares for his people Evidenced bi him mentioning his people or compatriots. By mentioning his people, he shows he does relate to humanity. In addition, the reading says the people of Kiltartan Cross cannot become happier because of their connections with is landscape.

There is not mention of landscape at all in the poem. What the poem suggests is that the outcome of that war whether it's won or lost it would have not effect on these people for they neither benefit or suffer from this war. In the poem, An Irishman Foresees His Death William Butler Yeats places us in the thoughts going through a man about to die. From the beginning the title, itself represents what's going to happen the Irishman know he is proximate to death. The voice of this poem is narrated in the first person.

It tells us the reasons he is up there and that he knows about the fate is awaiting him up in the sky. This pilot has not stake in this war for he is fighting for a country that he does not care for, and he clearly has not vendetta against the people he is fighting against. Furthermore, he expresses his patriotic feelings are for the Irish people more specifically, the Kiltartan cross, which would also, would not benefit from this war. Unlike others soldiers who go into war for nobles causes like a sense of patriotism, the honor of defending the country and fighting for the way of living, for freedom, independence or perhaps just being drafted he let us know that he was not drafted nor he was fulfilling an obligation. The reason he was there was because of his desire to flight, he love to fly and that was a way of doing it. This suggest also that perhaps this was an unattached man no family or girlfriend of any sort, since he had no regard for what he would be leaving behind.

Recognizing he was about to die he started to gather thoughts on his mind about the years left behind, and the years to come seem a waste of breath. When outweighing two possibilities he realizes is a waste of time and is better to focus in the present. In conclusion, this poem is about an Irish pilot fighting for a country other than his own for the pure joy of flying without any sense of patriotism or military honor. When he realizes he is about to die he realizes he is prepare for death an the past and future don't really matter except for the present..
