Why Reality Shows are so Popular Why are reality shows becoming so popular? Reality shows have been around for ever. Candid Camera was one of the first reality show. It played pranks on people.

There are still some shows that prank people like Jack Ass and Punk'd but most reality shows tape peoples life. Reality shows often portray adventure and excitement, as seen in shows like Survivor, The Amazing Race, and The Mole. They send people where most of the general population will never go and send cameras to capture it all on film for the rest of us. They allow us to experience far off places like Africa, Italy, India, Australia, and China from the comfort of our own living rooms. Being able to watch in our living is more convenient and much cheaper. Also reality TV can be educational.

Often in Survivor, props and challenges are themed to match the culture of there location. For example, in the Survivor Africa the contestants diets consisted of corn meal which is a very common food in Africa. People are liking reality shows more because they are getting sick of all the predictable shows. There are so many commonly used plots and the traditional Christmas episodes, Halloween episodes, and the substance abuse episodes.

They like reality TV because it is unpredictable. You never know what is going to happen next. Reality shows are unscripted so there will always be twists and surprises. People like reality TV because dumb people do gross things just for a chance of winning money.

Why would anyone go on Fear Factor and eat brains or bob for chicken feet in bowls full of maggots. That is absolutely disgusting. No normal person would do that unless you were poor and really needed the money. Also why would anyone go on Temptation Island? So they can break up with the person they have loved for so long. It's ridiculous to see what people will do for money or to be on TV.

The public likes seeing people make fools of themselves on national television. Reality TV also lets us see how people from different cultures and different parts of the country act. For some people its the only time they get to see different cultures. Biographies and autobiographies have always been very popular but now people don't have to read they can just watch it on the TV. For example, Newly Weds, a popular show with Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, shows the life of a just married couple. It is very interesting to watch but wouldn't be nearly as good if you had to read it.

You wouldn't get the picture of how stupid Jessica is. People in today's society just like to see how people live. The show Cribs shows the houses of famous musicians, actors and actresses, and athletes. Why should we see how famous people live.

Its none of our business but it is interesting to some people to see how they live. Seeing there houses just makes us wish more and want to be more like them or makes you work harder so you can have the stuff that they do. Real World and Road Rules are very popular Reality TV shows. They both choose seven people to live and work with each other for three months. I think it is interesting to people because they choose seven total strangers to live with each other. They only get along with each other for the first week then they are comfortable and act like they normally would.

Even though most of the time they don't get along they still have to come together and work as a team. It is interesting because of the unique people that are on the show. It always seems like MTV picks drama kings and queens. If MTV just picked seven boring people know one would watch and they wouldn't be so popular. Will reality TV shows ever end? Each year it seems like more and more stupid reality shows are on the air.

That just shows how popular they are. If they weren't so popular companies would not have them on there station. They would not have any one watch them and they would have terrible ratings and would loose some sponsors who bought commercials to be aired during that time. Reality TV shows will remain popular until more unpredictable sitcoms are made or until reality shows are so bad that know one watches them anymore. I am not a big fan of reality TV personally but I know a lot of people who watch them on a regular basis. All it is to me is stupid people doing stupid things.

What's so great about that? Nothing. It is a waste of time while you could be doing something important. They are popular because is because it is average people doing unwavering things..
