The Problem This is a preliminary proposal to change the course requirements for the Applied Computer Science degree. Specifically, I am requesting the removal of the supporting requirements in the field of science. The current courses, Chemistry 140,141, Biology 196,197, Physics 110,111, all are courses designed for majors in those fields of study. By forcing Applied Computer Science students to take these courses it dramatically hurts them.

The Solution A solution to this problem would be to lower the supporting course requirements. Requiring students to take the introductory courses covers more area of that subject. The introductory courses help students obtain a rounded education and not hurting their grade at the same time. Further Research With your final approval of this proposal, I will undertake several research methods to support my argument...

Research of the requirements of similar degrees from local universities and colleges will be done... I plan on interviewing members of the Computer Science Department to obtain the reason for requiring a high level of scientific backgrounds in Chemistry and Biology... In addition, I will interview a company and see if it is important that those hired have scientific knowledge. Overall, changing the requirements of the Applied Computer Science degree can only benefit the students currently obtaining degrees. Through research and comparison to similar colleges and universities I will demonstrate the need to change the curriculum.
