Personality and Personal Growth 1. The text book definition of Personality is an individual's unique pattern of thoughts, feelings and behaviors that persist over time and across situations. In a way I agree with this idea that a personality is what makes all of us who we are. I believe that a personality is a combination of innate characteristics that everyone is born with and the sum of total life experiences.

I believe that a personality is a portrayal of an individual's reality. The way that an individual walks, talks, speaks and even the career path that they choose to go on is all a reflection of their personality. I believe that each individual is put on this earth to influence every person that they come in contact with; it is the responsibility of every individual to learn as well as teach each other. I strongly believe that you are born with a unique, distinct personality. I remember when both my nieces and my nephew were born each one of them had a specific personality that has transformed and made them each as they are today.

My oldest niece, since the young age has always had this older wisdom about her like she was a reincarnated older spirit. This wisdom always comes out in her personality; she is continuously teaching us (older folk) and making us look at life in a different manner than what we would originally look at something. She has made us look out of the cave and adjust our eyes. I believe that the personality does change across time.

As stated earlier it is the responsibility of all individuals to learn as well as teach from all that is encountered in a lifespan. Like my niece teaching me to slow down and look at life more open minded and less judgmental, I also teach her about the responsibilities of life, I guess you could say that we teach each other to find a happy medium. 2. The "Thoughts of Life" handout three main themes that I found are as follows 1. You must always live your life to the fullest, 2.

Make mistakes because that is the only way that you are going to learn, and grow 3. In order to find happiness one must first suffer to discover what is in front of them. These are only three that I found but in my opinion there are many more. "An integral being knows without going, sees without looking and accomplishes without doing" - Lao Tzu I believe that an individual's growth is determined on the way that they choose to live their life. All beings are given a choice, a fork in the road to follow. Once you have chosen the road to take then the lessons that you come upon are the ones that you are meant to learn.

My mom always says to me when I get frustrated that I made the choice to live the life that I am living. The problems that I encounter during this lifetime are the ones that I have to encounter in order to find true happiness. I was once told that when any person is about to come to earth they sign a contract stating that they have different lessons to learn in order to find true happiness, if they do not learn the lessons that they are meant to learn then the challenges to teach them will follow them through to the next lifetime until they learn the lessons. It may take many lifetimes before the individual has learned what they are meant to learn. I guess that's true, the life that I am leading is the path that I chose to live.

There are certain repetitive lessons that I am continuously experiencing at this moment in my life; the problem is that I haven't figured what I am suppose to learn in order for me to grow and find happiness. Maybe I will soon. It is important for all persons to live a life to the fullest, make mistakes and learn from them, and then you grow. Take a chance on life. I think that these are the perennial themes in life that all individuals are meant to experience you must learn from the mistakes and grow from them, because if you don't learn from them then they will just keep on repeating themselves until you change the pattern.

The perennial themes are relevant to personality because it is the individuals that you meet throughout your lifetime that help you to discover the lessons that are meant to be learnt. In order to grow spiritually, and emotionally an individual must look at all that they have experienced, look at all the people that they have encountered and find out for themselves what they were placed on the earth to do. Every individual was put on the earth to do something, to influence someone in someway.
