The story, Romeo and Juliet carried a constant theme of love and death. William Shakespeare wrote this play with several different ideas in mind. He tried to have a romance story that still incorporated violence as well as comedy making a play that all classes of people would enjoy. He succeeded by making one of the most famous plays of all time.

Immediately as the play is commenced, the plot of the story is unfolded. The chorus begins revealing the story about two equal ranked families, battling over an ancient grudge carried out from their ancestors. The theme of fighting is already revealed in the opening line to the story. Following the line of fighting and anger comes the second theme, love. Shakespeare writes about two 'star - crossed lovers,' ; referring to Romeo and Juliet. The term 'star - crossed lovers,' ; sets the reoccurring theme of love and death and represents the entire play in those three words.

Romeo and Juliet met one night at a party where they immediately fell desperately in love at first sight. Both were happily in love until they found they were in love with their enemy. The theme of teenage rebellion becomes an issue at this point. Romeo and Juliet love each other but this love is rejected throughout their families being both their families have had a grudge carried out from their ancestors. The only way for Romeo and Juliet to have a relationship is to keep it away from their families finding out. After only knowing each other for a few hours, Romeo proposed his love to Juliet.

They made plans to get married the next day. Following their marriage, another character named Tybalt is attempting to fight a character named Mercutio. This follows the fighting theme, and although it is a deadly scene, the fight is played to be humorous. Mercutio has such a good sense of humor; he tried using it to get out of the fight, although he still got stabbed. Out of rage, Romeo ran after Tybalt and stabbed him because Tybalt had just killed his cousin.

The theme of death is once again presented. This time it was from fighting and anger. Romeo was exiled after being accused of killing Tybalt. Juliet's' parents try and force her to marry a man named Paris, someone she doesn't love. Juliet's deep love for Romeo is worth more than life and she demonstrates this when she yells at her dad that she would rather be dead than to marry Paris. She plots a tricky plan so she can be with Romeo and away from her family.

Her plan didn't really go off with a bang, when Romeo comes to see her, he finds her dead (but she's really only sleeping) and he kills himself. Than Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo dead so she kills herself. The overall themes throughout the story were love, death, and fighting.
