Romeo's Presence At His Party example essay topic

271 words
In my opinion, the "ancient grudge" between the Montague's and the Capulets seems to be something which has been going on for a long time and has died down. The reason they hate one another so much is unclear throughout the play, and is never explained. Furthermore, besides the early battle in the beginning of the play, there does not appear to be much of a grudge between the majority of the two households. In addition, Old Capulet knew of Romeo's presence at his party, yet he did not do anything. The fact that the reason for the feud is not explained shows how far back the hatred for one another has gone.

This also shows that they are fighting only because their ancestors hated each other and are only following what they were told. The battles between the two parties appear to be the causes of the younger generations. They all seem eager to display their sword skills and for the thrill. This is mainly the case when Ty balt discovers Romeo lurking amongst their guests at the party, and requests from Old Capulet to act.

However, Old Capulet does not seem bothered by his presence and allows him to venture about in his household. The so-called "ancient grudge" is clearly dying. However, it was unfortunate that the lives of Romeo and Juliet who did bring the feud to an end, could not have ended in glory but tragedy. The tragedy that is "Romeo and Juliet" is the fault of the "ancient grudge" no one knew reason for.
