Rummage Through The Garage At Jeff's House example essay topic

When I graduated High School I had no clue I would be living in a totally different life then I was used to. I would be living away from home, away from my parents and away from my town. I would be able to do things at my own pace, on my own time. I wouldn't be worried about my parents getting on my back about school and I would have the freedom that I had always wanted. Little did I realize that the summer before college would actually prepare me for what lied ahead in my college life.

Anyone who knows me knows my best friend Jeff. I have known him almost fourteen years and we have literally been around each other for that long. He lived about three roads down from my house, and if I wasn't at his house then we were ay my house and vice versa. Over the years we had experienced everything together.

From kindergarten to graduating in High school our whole life we have grown up together During the first weeks of summer things were slow. Nothing had really changed of become different like we had thought. Over the course of a few days we had done little to make the summer fun. Finally it was when Jeff had called me that I realized I hadn't seen him in awhile. He asked what I was doing and I quickly relied, "nothing" as I changed the channel on the television. I told him I would be down in a minute, I hopped in my car and drove two seconds down the road.

As I walked to his door I saw one of his three cats jump from the window and proceed around the house. I knocked on the door and I see Jeff's head pop up above the glass top. He quickly opened the door and hurled a football at me. It hit me right in the head and it scared me so bad that I jumped back and fell against the wall. Of course, I grabbed the ball and hurled it right back at him.

However he saw this coming and shut the door in an instant. The ball reflected back and hit the cat that had now came back into the house. We both came out laughing hysterically when the cat screeched and ran inside. Finally, I caught my breath and said "That would have been great on camera!" Finally when we caught our breaths we went inside and sat down on the couch. We grabbed a drink and turned on the television.

My favorite show Jackass was on. We watched in horror as Johnny Knoxville, the star of the show wore a jockstrap and tested the strength of it with a sledgehammer and some exceptionally large third graders; he had the perfect tools to the test cups strength. We watched in horror as he repeatedly had the third graders kick him in the jockstrap, "You know what?" I quickly said to Jeff as I watched the pain "we can do this, we can make a funny video like this". Of course I wasn't planning on testing the strength of a jockstrap like Johnny Knoxville, but I was thinking about making a funny a video that we could show out friends. That day we had begun to make the beginning of the video, we started off with an intro that would capture the audience. Panning from the floor up to us we introduced ourselves in the genuine "Jackass" style and made the first clip.

With absolutely no idea of what we were going to do for our first stunt we decided to head to the garage. At least we knew that were would be something dangerous in there that we could mess with. We began to rummage through the garage at Jeff's house when both of our eyes turned to see the perfect equipment. Hanging on the wall was hid older brother's lacrosse gear. There were two pairs of equipment, it was perfect!

We quickly grabbed the equipment and put it on. It was from that moment when I strapped on my helmet that I felt invincible. With all of this protection, I could run through a brick wall! It instantly reminded me of my football days when I had played in High School.

Six guys could tackle you and you would hardly feel the pain. That's when we realized that this New Year would be the starting point of our very own Jackass video. We ran to the front of his garage and hit ourselves with the lacrosse stick over and over, double checking that it would be painless. After we were satisfied with beating the hell out of ourselves, we set the camera up at the perfect angle.

Jeff had propped the camera up on an eight foot ladder on an extremely steep driveway. To this day I still have no idea what he did that. However, soon we were hitting each other with the sticks and coming up with ideas for the first so called "stunt". After a few attempts to plan something we decided that we were just going to have to beat the hell out of each other to make it funny.

So that's exactly what we did. I stood nervously in front of the basketball hoop as I prepared for what was going to happen. Looking through the lacrosse mask I awaited the lacrosse stick that would soon be hitting my face. I had agreed to left Jeff hit me across the face as hard as he could with the stick. In my better judgment I should have through it over again.

Before I knew it Jeff had pressed record and was ready to hit me. He grinned as he counted down and cocked the lacrosse stick back. With a full turn of his body he swung the stick as hard as he could. My face clinched as my face felt like it had been hit by a brick. I flung back and grabbed my head to stop it from ringing. I quickly caught my breath and took the helmet off.

My nose began to hurt when I realized that the face mask dented in enough to hit me. For next stunt we had decided to rummage through Jeff's garage. We began looking for things that we could use. With little to choose from we had to work with what we had. Luckily we were able to come across two "Razor Scooters" They were about two feet long and one was silver and the other black. The scooters were set on roller blade wheels so they could glide across the street.

We took the scooters to Jeff's driveway and proceeded to ride them around. Eventually we became more confident with them and were ready to plan our next stunt. We started a journey on our scooters through the neighborhood to the biggest hill we knew of. Upon arriving we charged down the hill.

The road had just been paved and was extremely smooth. We flew past the mailboxes as we glided down the street. After a couple of test runs we decided that we were going to do something different then just ride down the hill. After a few minutes of plotting, I grabbed both scooters and attempted to ride both of them at the same time. With one foot on each scooter I was able to balance. Jeff saw what I was attempting and immediately grabbed the video camera.

He presses record as I made my way further up the hill. Finally when I was ready to go, I pushed my self off and proceeded to now ski down the hill. I swerved back and fourth trying to maintain a slow speed. At first I had done quite well. I was slowly making progress down the hill. However with every turn, it became more difficult.

I squatted down as tried to pull the scooters to the side to slow down. However with no avail I quickly caught more speed and became to fly down the hill. I screamed as I quickly began to lose control of my legs. The scooters were slowly going in opposite directions and they were taking my legs with them. My legs flew apart as one of the scooters bolted to side. I was thrown face first on the freshly paved surface.

I rolled three times and my hands felt like they were on fire. I laid facing the sky as Jeff came running down the hill. He quickly pointed out the skin marks on the ground that I had left behind, as he laughed hysterically. I turned to the side to see four white smudges on the dark black street. Oh my gosh, I thought as I looked down to see what I had done to myself. My body ached as I got up from the street.

My elbows were bleeding and my legs had been scraped, however It was on video and that was all that mattered. Once we had gotten two really good shots we were somewhat satisfied with our video. Although it was short it was a great start for what we had in mind. We took a break and drove to my house to get something to eat. At that point my older brother had walked in the door.

He had just woken up and was coming into the kitchen to get something to eat. We told him we wanted to show him something and quickly played the video for him while he poured himself some cereal. He sat stunned as he saw what we did. He couldn't believe what we had done. He just smiled and said, "you guys are crazy" as he walked out of the room.

After we had shown the video to someone, it quickly encouraged us to make it better. We knew that we would have to make it longer to keep it interesting. We went outside to think of more stupid stunts we could do and made our way on the scooters back to Jeff's house. Once we arrived, we quickly became bored and decided to finish the tape the next day. We gathered our things and put the video away. The next day I woke up and made my way to the living room.

Still sore from the day before, I slowly sat down on the couch. It was then that I got a call from Jeff. He quickly told me that when he put the camera away, he left the tape on the counter and in the middle of the night his cat knocked it off the edge. The tape was broken on the side and wouldn't play in the VCR. After trying to fix it numerous times, Jeff let me know the inevitable news. There was nothing we could do.

Although the tape broke, We never became too upset about it. We had turned a normal summer day into one of the most interesting days of our lives. Although we were beaten, bruised, cut and tired. We knew that we had done something with our day.

We would always have the memory of creating the video. We would always have a story to tell about the summer before college.
