Same Sex Marriage example essay topic

I agree with the author's article about how the increased tolerance of homosexuality is related to the weakening of marriage for a number of reasons. Courtship and dating has definitely become a thing of the past. In recent years "hooking up" and having sex with random women or men has become a very regular occurrence and is teaching some real bad lessons about love and marriage, and what real commitment is. Men these days go by the saying "why buy the cow, when you can get the milk for free", why put the time and money into a girl and go through the whole dating scheme, when you can get what you want and move on. For most marriages to work, the couple needs that dating time to establish a close relationship not based on sex. In recent years, sex has become so much more open and highly publicized, that kids of very young ages are starting to get involved.

Television shows and movies have become so sexual that during primetime television hours shows include such topics as gays and lesbians and are on broadcast T.V. I think these television shows increase the nation's tolerance for homosexuality and is teaching the young viewers bad morals and values. In Jonathan Rauch's article, he voices his opinion about how he believes that same sex marriage is good for homosexuals, heterosexuals and marriage itself. I highly disagree with his opinion because Rauch believes if gays get married, they will secure a long lasting commitment to each other, but this is not what happens. A substantial number of gay couples openly reject such expectations and declare that their interest in marriage is confined to its economic and legal benefits. Gays also tend to be disloyal to their mates and cheat on them frequently. Rauch misses the fact that it is women - not marriage as such - who make men, in William Raspberry's words, "suitable for, and amenable to, marriage".

It is the unique sexual bond between men and women that domesticates men. The reason gay's desire to legalize marriage is simply an attempt to gain social approval for homosexuality. What people are not seeing is that with this growing tolerance for homosexuality, there is a weakening in dating, relationships and marriage. The public needs to be worried about the children in all of this because they are the ones most deeply affected.

With all of this talk about gays and lesbians, the children could get confused and led astray. Families need to teach their children good morals and values and answer any questions children have to help them get through all this sexual confusion and to set the future on the right track.
