Same Thing As The Teleclone Mark IV example essay topic

910 words
I am an astronaut stranded on Mars whose spaceship has broken down beyond repair. In my disabled craft there is a Teleclone Mark IV teleport er that can swiftly and painlessly dismantle my body, producing a molecule-by-molecule blueprint to be beamed to Earth. There, a Teleclone receiver stocked with the requisite atoms will produce, from the beamed instructions me- composite with all my memories, thoughts, feelings, and opinions. If I activate the Teleclone Mark IV, I believe that I am the astronaut produced from a blueprint on Earth because the astronaut that was dismantled on Mars is now only a bunch of molecules instead of a living, breathing human being.

Suppose further that an improved Teleclone Mark V is developed that can obtain its blueprint without destroying the original, thus "cloning" me. In that case, I believe that I am both astronauts at once, just with two different consciousnesses. When I activate the Teleclone Mark IV, the machine dismantles me into molecules and makes a blueprint of it to send to Earth. On Earth, I am reassembled into myself exactly as I was on Mars. I am now the astronaut that was reassembled because the astronaut that was disassembled on Mars no longer exists and is now a bunch of random molecules. It is the same concept as in "Star Trek" and "Power Rangers" when people get "beamed" to a certain place, except with the Teleclone Mark IV, you are being recreated to be exactly like your original form.

There was an episode of "The Magic School Bus" where one of the students accidentally destroyed one of her classmate's toy soldiers. She then went to a recycling factory, picked out the same material that made up the old toy soldier, and made him a new toy soldier. Even though it is made of the same material and looks exactly the same as the old toy soldier, it is not the same toy soldier because the old toy soldier was destroyed and it ceased to exist. When I was destroyed, I died and my soul went to heaven or hell. When I was reassembled on Earth, I was exactly like myself physically but I had no soul and my soul makes me who I am and separates me from everyone else. Suppose you are using a computer.

It is the same thing as "cutting" something and pasting it to a new location. The original is converted into a different format that the computer will recognize and when you paste the object to its new location it is put back into its original format and rewritten. The Teleclone Mark V does the same thing as the Teleclone Mark IV except it does not destroy the original copy. You could say that this machine is like a cloning machine that makes exact copies of people.

I believe that when I activate the Teleclone Mark V, I will become two of the same people, except we have different brain activities and can individually execute tasks. If you have seen the movie "The Sixth Day", the main character is cloned and his exact copy takes over his life. They both are the same people with the same memories, thoughts, feelings, and opinions, except they think and feel things individually and have no connection to what the other person does. The second after both of me open our eyes, we are the same person, but once we start executing different tasks or think different things, we become individuals and are no longer the same.

We then set off and go on with our own loves and create our own path to live. When I am the one on Earth, I will go back to my family and continue my life as I normally would. When I am the one on Mars, I will probably die or be rescued by aliens. Going back to the computer example, it is the same thing as "copying" an object. When I copy the object, the computer writes a format of the original to be pasted. The object is pasted in the new destination and the original is still in its original destination, thus there are two of the same objects.

If I was the astronaut on Mars and activate the machine, I would still be on Mars because all it does is clone me not take me apart. I would ask questions like "Did it work?" or "Crap, it didn't work, what a piece of If I was the astronaut on Earth, I would say things like "Oh my God it actually worked!" and "I wonder how my original body on Mars is doing?" I am two of the same people but I have different thoughts and perform different things. The Teleclone Mark IV is a teleport er and the Teleclone Mark V is a cloning machine. One of them destroys the original and the other makes two of the same people.

When you use the Teleclone Mark IV you become the person that was rewritten and when you use the Teleclone Mark V you become two of the same people but with different thoughts. If you had a choice, which one would you rather use, the Teleclone Mark IV or the Teleclone Mark V?
