The Prince, a popular work of Niccolo Machiavelli which is a handbook on power politics. Most questions that are asked about this work is "Is it moral or not?" . Well, in my case, the morality or immorality of The Prince depends on the situation, the culture, and / or in the point of view of a nation. If it is seen in the view of the Church or Christianity, it is undoubtedly immoral since it says that "a ruler will perish if he is always good" and "the end justifies the means" which means that anything a leader do, whether it is good or bad is justified as long as his goal, which is to maintain power, is attained which is against the Christian teaching that we should always do good and be good. On the other hand, if you will look at it in the view of politics it is considered moral because The Prince talks about on how to acquire and preserve political power. In politics the most important thing is power, and it does not matter how one will have it, and we all know that being good does not always work.

That is the reason why the State is separated from the Church. The Constitution States in Article II, Section 6 that "The separation of Church and State shall be inviolable" meaning that the Church is not to interfere with political matters and vice versa because morality has always been the subject of disagreements between two parties. It would be hard for someone to pursue a law if the Church keeps on interfering. Machiavellism, the term which refers to the political theory stated in The Prince, is also dependent on the situations and / or culture of a nation. The application of Machiavellism is moral if a country or a nation is in chaos like during the time of Niccolo Machiavelli. Italy was in confusion and he just wanted to have a unified and strong government; therefore he did whatever it takes to achieve that goal.
