This scene is set in Macbeth's castle, it opens with Lady Macbeth reading a letter from her husband. Macbeth obviously is thoughtful towards his wife sharing his deepest thoughts and emotions with her. Macbeth also addresses her in the letter as "dearest partner in greatness " which shows his respect and appreciation for her. After reading the letter Lady Macbeth shares her fears in a soliloquy this is when we hear her deepest thoughts and emotions, saying that her husband may be "too full of the milk of human kindness" to plan a murder of the king. Lady Macbeth is ecstatic by the prospect of becoming the queen but fears her husband may be too kind to ensure he wears the crown. When she hears Duncan will be staying she immediately decides that she wil help her husband by encouraging him to murder Duncan.

Lady Macbeth's response to the news is that she welcomes " the fatal entrance of Duncan under my battlements". She sees this as the perfect opportunity to have her husband murder the king. We find out that Lady Macbeth is even more driven by greed and power than her husband and who is the force behind the plan to murder Duncan. Lady Macbeth begs the spirits to aid in the plan and wants her body to change to become evil so nothing can stop her to do what she wants to do. Macbeth then enters the scene, she greets him as the king "Great Glam is, worthy Candor". Lady Macbeth then says "Thy letter have transporte me beyond, this ignorant present, and I feel now the future in the instant".

This shows that Lady Macbeth is excited about the letters and wants the future now. Lady Macbeth shares her murderous thoughts with Macbeth about taking action against Duncan. When Macbeth tells her that Duncan will be only staying one night and leaving tomorrow, Lady Macbeth replies "that never shall sun that morrow see". She is trying to force her husband to kill Duncan and he must be killed tonight.

Shakespeare uses alliteration and similes to involve the reader more like "murdering ministers". Then Lady Macbeth warns Macbeth that he cannot let his plans for murder show in this face. Instead he must "look like the innocent flower but be the serpent underneath". This simile shows that Lady Macbeth worries that her husband might reconsider and decide not to murder the king. Lady Macbeth says "That my keen knife see not the wound it makes, nor heaven peep through the blanket of the dark".

This indicates that she wants wants to be in control of the plan by saying "my". She recognises that she is wrong and doesn't want heaven to stop it. Lady Macbeth tells her husband to "put this nights great business into my despatch". The scene closes with Lady Macbeth telling Macbeth to stay clam and "leave the rest to me" this shows that she is the main force behind the murder. From this scene we learn Lady Macbeth will be the driving force behind her husband and that she has softened the brave warrior Macbeth. The Box Clever production is a modern version of Shakespeare's Macbeth.

The Box Clever Production used a round stage which I think involves the audience more and makes it more realistic. There were only three actors in the play who played a number of characters. Sometimes it was confusing to understand which character they were playing at certain stages of the play. There is only one piece of set in the play it was a pyramid with a web of ropes. In the play this represents many things at different stages. At one stage it represents a cauldron for the witches, a web were Macbeth is caught in and Dunsinane castle.

In Act 1 Scene 5 in Shakespeares play we first see Lady Macbeth reading a letter from Macbeth. In the Box Clever Production Lady Macbeth is introduced to the audience this is to make you remember that it's only a play. Lady Macbeth is being introduced while music is playing the lyrics are "behind every great man ties a great women". In the letter scene it misses bits out and mixes bits up this is confusing when watching.

In Shakespeare play Lady Macbeth wears a dress. In Box Clever she wears a small Scotland rugby top this shows she is Scottish and that Macbeth is King of Scotland. The top is tight and short on her this shows that she uses her body to seduce Macbeth into her treacherous plans. Lady Macbeth wears dark blue velvet Nike tracksuit bottoms. Nike is a equaliavent to royal clothes when the play was set. The labels are expensive and important the modern equivalent of robes and velvet represents royalty.

Lady Macbeth wears red nail polish which represents blood on her hands at the end of the play when King Duncan is murdered. The most unusual costume in the play was a white sweat band which Lady Macbeth wore around her head. The sweat band represents a crown this shows she is so determined to become queen. When the actor who played Lady Macbeth starts the play the witches she removed the sweat band from her head and placed it around her neck. My first impressions of Lady Macbeth in Act 1 Scene were that she is very modern, she wore modern clothes while in most plays Lady Macbeth would wore a dress. We can relate more too Lady Macbeth in Box Clever because she is modern.

In the Box Clever play the actors use Shakespeare language like most Shakespeare interpret ions. Even thought Lady Macbeth in Box Clever uses Shakespeare language they still leave lines out and add in extra bits. The Box Clever production do this to make it more interesting and to involve the audience more. During the scene Lady Macbeth went over to member of the audience sit on there knee and started talking to them. The actor does this to add a bit of humour and to remind us that it's just a play. When the actor who plays Lady Macbeth speaks her tone of voice represents her character.

She shouts her lines slowly in a high pitched voice this shows she is dominant. Lady Macbeth in Box Clever moves slowly, strutting while parading around the audience showing she is a strong person. She posed in the pyramid kissing Macbeth trapping him like she wants him to obey her. Lady Macbeth seduces Macbeth persuading him to kill King Duncan in a sexual way. In Shakespeares play it doesn't tell us about Lady Macbeth's movement. This lets us imagine the way and for the director to chose their own style.

My overall impression of Lady Macbeth is that she uses her appearance to seduce Macbeth into murdering King Duncan. She is the driving force behind the killing of King Duncan. We also learn she is stronger, more ruthless and more ambitious than her husband. I think the Box Clever production is an excellent interpreted of Shakespeare's Act 1 Scene 5. It is a modern version of Shakespeares play but still manages to use Shakespeares language.

The modern day clothing represent the royal clothes of the 11th century. The introduction of Lady Macbeth in Box Clever is different but it lets us remember that it's just a play. Overall I really enjoyed the Box Clever production and it tells us more about Lady Macbeth than we knew from reading Shakespeares play..
