Situations A Person example essay topic

"People's attitudes are determined more by their immediate situation or surroundings than by any internal characteristic". The topic discusses a very common discussion point in our daily lives. Is it the internal characteristics of a person or the situation he finds himself in, the determining factor in his behavior. The fact that the situations a person finds himself in do play a major role in the shaping up of his behavior, cannot be denied out rightly. There are different things that come with a particular situation that a person has to take care of and in some cases going out of his way to comply with a particular situation's requirements.

It is possible that while he tries to tackle the situation he might do some actions which might be against the normal rules or values of the society, they can even against his own personal rules but a particular situation might lead him to do what he might not have done in a different environment. We can present several examples from the daily life that can support this argument. The love of a mother for her children is enormous. The fact cannot be denied at all as it is the universal truth. But we can see that in some third world countries like India, Bangladesh there have been some incidents reported where due to feminine and hand to mouth living conditions the mother were forced to sell their children for less than a dollar! Now this is something that you wont attribute to the nature of the particular mother but the first thing that would come to ones mind is that why such a condition has come where the only pure form of love was to be "sold".

The addressing of the issue wont need any harsh words for the mother but actually it should address the particular situation in which this extreme step was taken. Another real world example can be quoted here which is actually a true story. In the recently concluded Iraq war, the oppressive regime of a dictator came to an end. Thousands suffered in that particular period in Iraq due to that rule.

There were two brothers in Iraq who, due to the extreme hardships and cruelty of the rulers, had to hide themselves from the outer world for over 15 years. They lived in a underground room which was wide enough for one man to stay there. Now anyone not knowing the situation prevailing around, if would hear the story, would say that the person was may be a coward, may be a lover of alone life and may attribute these things as the characteristics of the man. But its was the situation around which demanded the person to hide himself from others to save the life. If a person, for the sake of averting a false situation from developing, hides an information for a while. When people might first come to know the actual information might call the man a liar and may also attribute some false things to him, but as it is clear that he only did that because of a prevailing situation which could have adversely affected the lives of many people.

On the other hand, it must also be pointed out that in some cases where the situation is not an adverse situation at all, people make decisions which are not at all according to any of the values of the society. We in our history have such examples where the commanders of some armies betrayed their kings and went in the opposition camps and became the reasons for the destroyed dynasties. There were no justifications for those persons to do such acts but they did them. Just because they were not strong personalities and didn't had any internal characteristic al strength to fight any temptation from within themselves. In these cases, it might be concluded that situations have no effect on the behaviors of the person.

But having analyzed both sides of the mirror critically, we may conclude here that some times internal characteristics are not enough to fight a prevailing situation and the actions might not reflect the actual personality of any person, but mostly it is the internal characteristics, whether good or bad, which decide for a person's actions..
