The Civil War made an enormous change on the way the people in America lived. It was a devastating stage for the families and friends of the men who fought in the war. They all knew that the war was worth losing a family member though. The slavery issue was very offensive, to the union people, because they thought slavery was brutal. The North did not realize either that the south needed the slaves to keep their farms in working progress. Slavery was very popular in the early 1600's to around 1860.

The American people had much work to take care of and they could not do it all their selves. In this case, They forced labor onto slaves so their farms could stay the way they wanted them to. After the American Revolution, slavery increased at a very fast speed. The north stopped slavery because they then felt that it was not right. They made the right choice. Abraham Lincoln became a part of this country and did not think of slavery as a good thing.

He blamed slavery on states rights. He thought that if the national government had chose no slavery, then the states rights would not do anything. But, the national government thought that it should be up to the states. The states in the North chose not to have slavery, but the states in the south wanted slavery and they kept it. Abraham Lincoln finally figured that it should be one way and one way only, and that way was to abolish slavery.

Well... the south wanted to have some say into this so they decided to fight for it and this was the beginning of the American Civil War. There were many battles fought in the civil war. Fort Sumter was one of them. This battle started on April 12th. Anderson had surrendered and the battle had begun.

There were also many other battles during the Civil War. Some of these are Battle of Shiloh, Appomattox Courthouse, Battle of Chattanooga, and many, many more. In this war, The north and the south had other names. The North had become the Union and the South was the Confederates.

There was a main general for each. The general for the Union was Ulysses S. Grant. The leader for the Confederates was Robert E. Lee. Abraham Lincoln was totally against slavery so he was on the Unions side. Because of this, the Union had a better chance of winning. Well...

The Union had won the American Civil War and they had done it as a fair fight. Slavery was abolished forever and it will never come back. It is illegal now and will stay illegal. This time period was very important. But now, this world is different. This country is different.

It has changed and will stay changed. A lot of American soldiers died for their country and their people. That is how much they cared.
