Society's View Of Ned Kelly example essay topic
To see if whether Ned is a product of society or a product of nature it is evident that his life as a youth will be the pivot point in the end conclusion. It is the fact that Ned jumped into a river and saved the life of a young fellow school boy which greatly adds to the belief that as a young boy that he was innocent, rather than corrupt and evil, and did have a good heart. "I wore it seriously, my hero's sash of green and gold. See, I can say.
Proof that I have saved a life as well". Which obviously shows us that he knows what he is doing is somewhat wrong and unethical, but by remembering his good side, we are also shown that Ned is somewhat forced into the situation which he finds himself in, the situation of killing policemen. However from his past actions it is clear that his future actions as a "villain" were conceived rather than that of natural intuition. It is the beliefs of Ned Kelly, which show us his true self, for his beliefs and desires shows us what he fights and why he does so.
"That's my mother your doing that to", it is made evident from this that it is his for his mother that he is doing what he is doing. But does that really justify his actions? Not completely, but for the reason why his mother has been locked up changes this. His mother was also a victim of such a biased society, and it is due to this unjustness within the society which he must operate in which forces him to become the villain which they all so dearly hate. "They'd also see what dapper was". His desires show us that Ned Kelly himself would like to be a gentleman, that with class, style and kindness and not the dirty monster which he is so commonly perceived as.
It is this want that proves to us that down inside Ned is good at heart. Society's view of Ned Kelly is basically that of the scum of the earth, "Devil incarnate of the Antipodes... evil marauder". By viewing him so, it leaves Ned with little choice but to become what they so commonly name him. "When they declare you to be so and so, then you become it".
Due to this so blatant declaration that Ned is merely conforming to society implies that it is not his choice, rather it is out of his hands yet he is aware of the situation at hand. "would have to send their best artists, their top men. This time they'd see something". This implies that Ned Kelly is somewhat putting up a play for them, as if it is something he can merely turn off or on at his will, which however implies the reasoning that he is choosing to do so. However as stated above he is forced to do so, even though he may have the "choice" to turn it off or on, he is forced to turn it on to continue to uphold his beliefs and to prevent himself from merely becoming part of the evil society. However the actions forced upon him may at first may be that of a evil nature, which is somewhat expected when the actions forced upon him originate from a evil source, but it is necessary for him to act out such deeds to uphold his innocence and good heart, which at face value doesn't seem to be the case at hand. "Locking up a mother of ten on perjured evidence is guaranteed to work" It is also made evident that his actions are that of love for his mother and family, for he believes that she has been mistreated.
Is there really anything which can justify a course of action more than love? It is made evident by his beliefs, reasons for his actions and his desires that Ned Kelly himself is basically that of a good person, and was not merely born to produce such evil actions. Ned's course of actions is testament to the belief which was upheld by Rousseau, that humans are by nature good, and that our flaws are due to the corruption produced by society. Furthermore it has been made clear that evil itself is no one single man but rather a coalition of men, in this case Ned Kelly and society are the key components of this idea.
