Socy 1002 Course example essay topic

209 words
What it did not do, which the SRES course did, was integrate into the tutorial program the practice of researching that is necessary for essay writing. In the Socy 1002 course seemingly endless assistance was provided to students on a group and individual level, including specific discussion on what an essay should include, how it should be written, how it should be referenced, developing an argument, understanding and developing a question, and so on. First year students in particular face a gap (sometimes a chasm) between the essay question and the writing of the essay itself. The SRES tutorial on writing an annotated bibliography helped bridge this gap using ILP principles in a way that the Socy 1002 course did not, despite the best efforts of the tutors. It made a distinct difference in terms of the quality of essay writing, but it is by no means a cure all for the challenges of teaching and learning.
