Ringworld By Larry Niven This story has four main characters, they have been chosen by a race called the puppeteers to investigate a gigantic artifact. Nessus, Louis Wu, Teela Brown, and Speaker-to-Animals are the ones chosen to do it, each of them because of particular qualities: Nessus for his insanity, Louis Wu because he has survived an adventurous life for 200 years, Teela Brown because of her luck, and Speaker-to-Animals because of his combination of strength, ferocity, and relative reasonableness. The story begins with Nessus (an insane puppeteer) gathering his crew together, Louis Wu is taken from a transport Nessus has manipulated, Speaker-to-Animals by Nessus insulting his friends in the worst possible way. Nessus meets Teela Brown, but it takes her some time to agree to come along.

The price they are being paid for this adventure is a very advanced ship that can cover a light year in 75 seconds. The excitement start when S.T.A. (speaker-to-animals) tries to high jack the ship, he fails. They head to the artifact, a gigantic band constructed around a sun; they try to contact the inhabitants, in many ways, but fail. They end up crash landing onto the planet.

They find that there is a system of shading devices around the sun to create day and night, as well as produce power. The first sight of the natives, from overhead, surprises them, the natives are Human. They investigate many parts of the Ringworld, from floating castles, to deadly sunflowers, a priest, a meteorite hole, Nessus losing one of his two heads, and much more excitement, they finally "slingshot" themselves off the Ringworld. This book has a great plot, and some very intricate subplots, all around very good book!
