If this were the size of the grant which was given in the sports world today sport would almost be non-existent. On the last year that the Sports Council were in charge of sport the received a massive lb 47.4 m.
This money helped to set up sports club and also to help improve facilities of clubs that already existed. How does sport England work? Members of the council of Sport England are appointed by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and sport. Their responsibilities include: 1. Approving all policy matters and operational and corporate plans for Sport England. 2.
Bringing an independent judgement to bear on issues of corporate strategy, performance, resources, key appointments and standards of conduct. 3. Ensuring that public funds are properly applied and safeguarded, and that Sport England operates economically, efficiently and effectively at all times. The work that Sport England does is guided by a series of advisory panels dealing with the following: o Lottery o Local authorities o Equity o And, higher and further education. To achieve there goals and aims the main office in London work closely (hand-in-hand) with nine regional offices. They also have a number of contacts across private and public sectors.
These include local authorities, sport governing bodies, plus national and regional organisations concerned with sport, recreation, education and the environment. What are the sports council's main responsibilities? Sport Council's responsibilities is spilt in two: 1. It is responsible for maintaining and developing the infrastructure of sport.
2. It is responsible for distributing National lottery fund. In addition to these it is responsible for five National sports Centres, (UK Sport, Sport England, Sport Scotland, Sport council for Wales, Sports council for Northern Ireland). Sport England funds its work jointed between the National lottery and Exchequer. Exchequer does the main funding for maintaining the infrastructure of sport in England. The national lottery money is simply just divided between sports club and organisations.
The money isn't divided equally because of the size and the requirements of each club are different. For example, a sports club might need a grant to make there club accessible for a disabled athlete. UK Sport is a council that mainly focuses on high performance sport at UK level. UK sport has an aim of achieving excellence in sport at world class level. UK sport also uses lottery money to try to attract big competitions into the UK.
Sport Scotland is a national sport body which aims to widen the opportunities for all Scottish people whatever there ability or whatever there sport may be. They hope to produce world class excellence. The Sports council of Wales is a national organisation, which gives out lottery grants to improve facilities around Wales. Their 'vision' is to increase the amount of participation and the standard of performance in Wales, "for a brighter sporting future". The Sports council for Northern Ireland is mainly focusing on the development of facilities and to maintain these.
They are also focusing on getting young people involved in sport to get them off of the streets. The National Lottery simply raises the money and then divides it between the five sporting boding and they use it, as they seem correct. The money that is divided between the sporting bodies is then divided again and donated to sporting club and leisure facilities. The money is mainly used to improve facilities and to buy more or better equipment for the athletes to use.
This has a positive affect on everyone at the club. Everyone gets to use the better equipment which means there is a better chance of improving the technique of that athlete, which in turn means there is a better chance of that athlete making it through to the World Championships in whatever sport, which equals, a world class performer. The improvement of facilities also means that there is room in the club for the beginners. The higher standard athletes use the new top quality equipment leaving the older equipment to the beginners. The sports clubs try to bring in a large number of new athletes so that they have a strong junior squad and so that when they are developed athletes they have a strong senior squad. Throughout the UK the sports council are trying there hardest to improve the standard of sport in the United Kingdom.
One day not to far from now the UK will be up there at the Olympics topping the medal table because of the sporting improvements we are making at the moment. The kids of today will become Olympic Champions because of the lottery grants that are issued, and it's because of this that Great Britain will become the greatest in the sporting world.
