Sports Help Students example essay topic
Sports help students get into colleges that will allow them to get a better education. Once in college only a hand full of athletes will go on into professional sports. That leaves thousands of students who will need a good education to get a good job. Playing in school sports actually helps students do better in school work than students who don't participate in any sport. It allows for an outlet from other distractions that occur in high school and college life. Outside school programs allows children to escape from the negative aspects they may encounter in the world.
Children from rough neighborhoods where a lot of people end up in jail or dead because of drugs and gangs get a chance to be away from those things and do something positive with their lives. These programs allow children to develop in a positive way and are given opportunities that would never be possible without them. Hamilton County in the state of Tennessee is hurting badly, the Dept of Education is so far in debt that they are having to cut sports programs from the schools. Highschool sports such as football were cut completely from a few schools. The only way they could continue was if the students could come up with the money needed. Students all over Hamilton County were holding car washes, fund raisers, and just flat out asking people for donations.
In the long run can you see how this can affect the education of a student. Taking out all this extra time to try and earn money. This time could be used to study and focus on school. (Hamilton County Public Meeting.) There is plenty of money being given to the schools it is just not going to the right places.
In Calvert County Maryland the state currently spends about nine thousand dollars a year on a single student. Plus there are state and federal grants on top of that. Multiply that by 25 students in a classroom and you " ve got roughly two hundred twenty five thousand dollars per classroom. Now you tell me if you think there isn't enough money.
The Department of Education doesn't seem to think so. In Calvert County, athletes will have to pay seventy-five dollars to participate in school athletics. This is like many other "pay to play" programs all over the United States. (Patuxent Highschool Athletics.) Seventy-five dollars is one of the more reasonable fees around.
(Trevor Bothwell.) A lot of People may disagree that schools get plenty of money. That is true, but what the government is doing with it and where it all goes is what is wrong. Sure they give hundreds of thousands of dollars to each school every year, but somehow it is not enough and they cut sports and other extracurricular activities. Others may say well sports are not as important as an education, this is true but sports help to enhance education. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I am just stating mine.
Although my opinion is a very strong issue and many people share the same views as I. If everyone could see that sports are very important to our youths development and should not be given up on so easily. The government is misusing our youths money and is costing parents and students more money and more time to try and stand up for what they believe in. In this research paper I have tried to explain some of the reasons that our schools are losing funds for sports. I also have tried to express that sports are an important part of the learning process. They help people learn to work with others and to communicate in order to complete a task. Without these tools in life people would not get along.
Most officials in the Department of Education get paid more than One hundred and twenty thousand dollars a year. They get exemptions for mileage, gas, trip expenses and get many other benefits. Surely they could find some way to keep sports and other extracurricular activities a part of the educational experience. Maybe they don't really care?
