During his stay, Shane showed qualities of bravery, honor, and protectiveness for the Starrett family. He acted in many chivalrous ways, which is why everyone respected and loved Shane. Though chivalrous, Shane is also sometimes very mysterious. Shane's past is an unknown to everyone, and his mysterious manner has everyone somewhat suspicious. He was back somewhere along the dark trail of the past", depicting how mysterious Shane seems to others. In the beginning, Joey triggers his gun and Shane reacts, pulling his gun. Shane had the whole family talking and wondering about his mysterious past. Though his past is a mystery, the Starrett's trust Shane for his loyalty to them. Shane acts like a one-of-a-kind gunslinger by being loyal to Joe Starrett, even though he didn't know Joe very well. While Shane was in the bar, Fletcher offers him a job. Clearly, Shane acts in very chivalrous and mysterious ways. Throughout his stay with the Starrett's, he becomes very close to all of them and shows his loyalty by doing his best to help them.
