Compare and contrast how two countries colonized the Americas England vs. France During the early 600's, the first settlers of Jamestown arrived at what is present-day Mass. The first settlers were part of a company, who invested money in this group and hoped to profit from what they found in the New World. Disease and hunger wiped out 50% of theses population. within the first few days. They soon began to realize that they would need protection from the Indians who were also raving their population.

The first group was thought to be unsuccessful and so. they boarded the ships and voyaged back to England. On their way, they were net by 3 other ships that was heading to Jamestown. The James company spent large sums of money just to keep the group alive by marching off enemy Indians. The company eventually ran out of money and the settlers of Jamestown was left to defend themselves. The French settled in what is present day Quebec. They had two main ideas, the first being to make money off fur pelt.

The French came to the Americas darting the 1620's. Unlike the English, the French was quick in befriending the native population. They also came in smaller groups, which made it easier for them to survive. The Indians helped the French by getting them the fur pelt was paid in coins. The French unlike the British, corrupted the Indian values and introduced a monetary system of value for these Indians. Not only did they start to change their monetary values, but for the first time we see Indians killing large numbers of wild life just to make money.

The French made money off the fur pelt trade and slowly began their process of stabilizing and moving westward. The second of the two reasons as to why the French came here was to spread religion through the new world. Although this was only second to making money in the land. Both the English and the French were funded by companies willing to invest money in groups of people whose sole purpose was to work for their motherland (mercantilism) This was the start of colonization. the French especially realized how much money they could make from the fur trade and began sending more groups of people later on. The English were unsuccessful at the start because they set up colony in a swamp land, send hundreds of people, and they did not befriend the Indians and also had no leadership until later on in their stay. The British chartered blind whereas the French had clear ideas as to how they would conduct themselves.

And thus was the beginning stages of colonization in the North America.
