When I graduated from high school I was working a part time job that I wasn't happy with and didn't display any advancement opportunities. I also knew that I wasn't ready to pay for an education I didn't want to receive. Upon graduation from high school I was informed by my parents that if I was going to pursue working, and not attend college, that I would need to move out on my own. By joining the navy it would provide me with pay, medical and dental insurance, food, and housing, which were the things I was looking for. It also gave me provide me with the opportunity to obtain my college degree when I was ready to do so, weather on active duty or after I had left the service.
I additionally felt the need to travel and experience other cultures and lifestyles. As a storekeeper in the navy the job I perform is an important one. The job includes a vast assortment of responsibilities and tasks. I receive, identify, store, and issue aviation supplies, spare parts, and equipment. Maintain stock control records and conduct special and regular inventories using ADP procedures. I prepare and submit supply-related documents for repair parts, supplies, forms and publications.
Arrange shipment documentation and prepare items for shipment. I prepare and submit correspondence and messages and maintain the associated files for them. I reconcile and balance fuel and administrative financial records to ensure that over expenditures do not occur. I follow the procedures and policy for control and accounting of classified equipment by conducting periodic inventories.
Review computer output for accuracy of data content, by ensuring compliance with procedures for records disposal, establish and maintain a technical library, accounts for damaged, overage, and short shipments and deliveries, develops storage plans. I have been fortunate to experience many things while I have been in the navy. After my initial training, In 1993, I had the opportunity to serve on an aircraft carrier in Yokosuka, Japan. This gave me the chance to be apart of a crew of over five thousand people that performed a variety of jobs in order to keep a ship operating at it's full potential even in harsh and dangerous locations. It gave me the opportunity to travel and experience countries like, Honk Kong, Thailand, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Hawaii, and the United Arab Emirates. Having the chance to visit these countries gave me the opportunity to experience many different cultures and ways of life I normally wouldn't have seen.
In 1999, I had the opportunity to live in Italy for two years. I was given the chance to see a different way of life not previously observed. The way of life was much slower paced. I have been fortunate in my career to experience many different ways of life and cultures.
