Unfortunately, even this very small group of people can involve tremendous stress. Leaving yourself open to learning how to work with people is a very wise thing to do. Some very helpful skills to work on are: relaxation, acceptance, spirituality, community, psychology, public speaking, and listening. If you have no acceptance of others, and no tolerance, you will be unable to listen. If you are unable to listen, you will be unable to communicate. In addition, if you do not listen to others, they will not listen to you.
There is much give and take involved in communication -- and you cannot simply do one or the other and be a successful member of a group and / or a successful leader of a group. Once you have established acceptance, tolerance and listening skills, the logical place to continue would be to learn how to speak. This involves proper body language, tone of voice, speaking slowly enough so that people understand you, but quickly enough to keep them alert! A public speaking class can help you to understand what is going on in a group situation; how to keep people's interest; and how to say things, when to say things, and how to get feedback so that you will know how well the things you are saying are getting through. Your appearance is also important. If you are speaking about a moral issue, you certainly don't want to be dressed in such a way that would imply that you are a member of an indiscreet group.
Tatoos, loud makeup, loud colored hair, gaudy jewelry are all things that should not be worn when giving a speach about a moral issue! On the other hand, if you are giving a speech against censorship, you certainly don't want to be wearing clothing, jewelry and hair style that resembles someone is is very conservative -- giving the message that you are actually the type of person who would engage in censorship! Once you have learned how you should dress, the next important step is to figure out what kind of person you really want to work with and why. So many people make the mistake of involving themselves with people who are totally different from themselves, with conflicting goals, and then they wonder why the group isn't going well.
