THE WORD WAR Unfortunately, lies are part of our everyday lives. Wherever we go, what ever we do at one point in our day we have told a lie to someone. The lying strategy is very well know in the world of politics, domestic or international it does not matter much. Lies, or as some people prefer to call it truth in its modified form, and misinformation are presented through all sorts of media to the public.

Especially, in times like these is golden. The U.S. may be fighting an armed war in Afghanistan, but an even bigger one is much closer that it appears. It is fought on our television, in our newspapers, over internet. Many sources make public different information about the same event.

But which information is the right information? There is a perfect start to, what I would lie to call. the Word War. Usually, in a war there are two sides. That means that each side has its and its truth.

It will try to communicate it to the public by the use of media. but in a war, the media is very censored which that the right information to the viewer. I will give you three examples of misled information. Though the Al-Jazeera, Arab television station that has exclusive access to the Afghan war, Osama bin Laden give interviews and sends messages to all the listeners. In one of his latest interviews 'he claims, implausibly, that he is not really fighting Americans, only Israel' (Margolis, Eric 2001) The Americans on the other hand dismiss strongly the idea, or rather the fact most of the normal, that they are helping Israel in many ways, shapes and forms. Out of these two statements, the public reacts something like this.

In Afghanistan those who have television and are able to view visual information, are totally confused since, for them, there is explanation behind the American attacks on their country. Bin Laden's fight is not against America but rather the state of is real. In the U.S. people that watch CNN and that are brainwashed enough actually believe that U.S. has nothing to do directly or with Israel and the everlasting war in the Middle-East. Another perfect example or 'playing with information' tactics brings us back to the NATO bombing of Federal Republic Of yugoslavia. During the U.S. led mission, thousands upon thousands of bombs have been dropped on yugoslav territory and God knows how many flights were flown during those 3 months of hell. Sometime within days of the attacks, the information got out on yugoslav nation television that the Nation Army had successfully brought down one of the billion-dollar-invisible-to-reader impossible-to-town plane.

As expected, while the yugoslav army is joyful, the Pentagon denies the whole thing. Few days later, the BBC, British Broadcasting Corporation, got access to the wreckage of the American plan and the footage was shown on European television but not here in the North America. Staying still in the same area of the world, during the Bosnia war (1991-1995) at one point the Americans, disguised under the NATO flag bombed the Serbs (presented to the West as aggressors) positions around the capital Sarajevo. Again, the mission was a clear, perfect success as the West hoped that it will be. The word got out that some American planes were shot down, and as we know it, the U.S.A. denied those statements.

For argument sake, let's say that we actually believed what they said. Americans have admitted that rescue have been organised during their raid on Bosnia. (CNN) Then, how come that rescue missions have been conducted to save the lost pilots if no planes were brought down?
