Optimization: Optimization is a process where we find the best possible solution to a problem for a specific purpose. Deming used an orchestra example to show that harmony can be achieved if we all work together. Each musician plays an important role in an orchestra. Therefore, each role is supporting each other in the harmony. I believe that Deming's idea of teamwork is very efficient in solving simple and complex problems. In the optimization system, everyone gains because they are supporting each other.

Therefore, any other method would slowly bring losses of components in the system. Adversarial competition: According to Deming, adversarial competition has been incorrectly conceived and the economists have a wrong view. The failure of this occurs in an industry where competitors need to work cooperatively on "common causes" of the problems. In doing so, it would again benefit everyone - including consumers and the economic system.

As Mr. Agua yo point out, there are two types of competition. Good competition takes advantage of the special situation to strive to make better products and services. Bad competition takes place when we individually solve problems common to all competitors. When this happen, we won't have an edge over other industries and result in a cancellation of advancement.

As a consumer, I would have to agree with Deming because I don't want companies to enjoy the benefits, but consumers and society in general as well. Education: One of Deming's arguments includes the evils of grading and ranking. This system is very harmful to students because teachers are just giving them a grade, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they have educated them any. I would agree with Deming on this because it is not natural learning anymore. We are forced to performed tasks and the quality of those tasks is based on a letter grade. In order to improve this situation, we need to recognize the main purpose of our goal so that our end product will be productive.

Ranking: Ranking is bad because it is not an effective way for people to work. It is the system that should get either the credit or blame for what is being produced. It believe that Deming is correct because the ranking system cannot improve the production of the market. The System: The system makes up all the components of organization. This includes the market, suppliers, and consumers. We need to recognize that in the system, or else the end product won't change, until the system changes.

That's why Deming suggests that we need to do our best, but it has to be in the right efforts. If the focus is not direct, this will keep the system poor. Thus, I believe the system needs to be efficient in order to have improvements. Union: Deming considers unions to be an important component of the system. In negotiations, a focus on self-interest results in loss. On the other hand, the growing of the business is based on working together.

This leads us back to the idea of optimization. Therefore, I agree with Deming, because I like everyone in the society to gain through teamwork. Continuous Improvement: Deming thinks that continuous improvement is crucial to a company. Besides, he also believes that quality is the main drive of continuous improvement.

Therefore, companies need to continually improve the quality of their products in order to keep up with the rest of the market. New innovations and better technology is expected from the consumers. Furthermore, a manager needs to understand the full meaning of a functional system - something that Deming believes most managers need to still learn. He continues to explain that most of the knowledge will come from experience in the work field. The manager needs to take the company and the consumers into consideration and satisfy both parties.
