In today's world, sport stars and other athletes are looked up to by all ages. They look great in the eyes of the everyday public. They appear on television, they perform as if they were perfect, and do this with the entire world watching. No wonder we make heroes out of our favorite athletes. I think that athletes become role models to thousands and thousands of children, and they must accept that responsibility and act in the proper manner. Athletes are also humans like everyone else in society and they should have some space to make mistakes.
Many of today's athletes take their stardom for granted. They constantly get into run-ins with the law and have their personal lives publicized. I think that athletes should be one hundred percent responsible for their actions on the court or on the field. People watch athletes to see how well they play, they do not watch their favorite athletes to see them get into altercations.
Athletes get paid money to perform the talent that they are blessed with, they are not paid to go out and fight. An example is when Laurell Spr ewell a professional basketball player for the New York Knicks, struck his coach and was waived by the team. Professional athletes are also human like everyone else in the society and they make mistakes like everyone else. I do not think that athletes should have their personal life publicized because no one else does. They should not be considered less of a role model because they had an argument with their wife. Everyone has an altercation with a loved one, why does an athlete have to be looked as someone different when they have an argument.
For example Allen Iverson a pro-basketball player had an argument with his wife and a big altercation broke out. Many people from the media were criticizing him. Children want to play and be talented like their favorite athletes they don't want to go out and start an altercation because their favorite athlete made a mistake once. Yet these athletes need to remember that while they perform at such high levels on the field, their actions in terms of on-the-field sportsmanship and off-the-field conduct have a profound impact on society.
