Tapestry Of Martin Back From Cluny example essay topic
When Matthias and Constance the badger were taking some of the animals who lived outside of the abbey home, they saw Cluny and his horde rolling past in a hay cart so they went back to the abbey to warn everyone. Cluny took one of the empty houses to use as his camp site until he took over the abbey. The Abbot agreed to meet with Cluny to see what he wanted but Cluny wanted Redwall to use as his fortress. Cluny said that the citizens of Redwall could surrender or die. The Abbot Refused to surrender and Cluny left to think of a way to capture the abbey. On his way out of the abbey, Cluny saw a tapestry of Martin the warrior.
Cluny had a nightmare about Martin that night which made Cluny scared. Cluny had one of his men called Shadow try to sneak in to Redwall and try and steal the tapestry. Shadow is a half ferret, half rat and is completely black. Shadow stuck in without any problem but Matthias got in the way and ended up pushing Shadow off of the abbey wall. Cluny was waiting at the bottom and he got the tapestry of Martin and left Shadow to die.
Matthias stuck out to steal the tapestry back from Cluny. On his way he met Basil the rabbit. Basil told Matthias he would help Matthias get the Tapestry back. Matthias stuck past the guards and Basil ran around the guards to get them away from the tents. Matthias heard someone calling for help in one of the tents so he went to find out who it was. It was the vole family.
They had been missing since Cluny came. Matthias had to help them escape instead of finding the tapestry. While Matthias was out attempting to get the tapestry back, Cluny had launched his first attack against Redwall. Cluny's horde tried attacking the abbey by slinging rocks at the mice on the wall and shooting arrows at them. The rats were losing horribly so Cluny came up with another plan. He had some of his army climb up a tree that was high enough for them to get up onto the wall.
The oldest mouse in Redwall, Methuselah saw the rats climb the tree and told Constance, the badger. Constance waited until Cluny was crossing the plank from the tree to the wall when she knocked the plank down. Cluny fell from the tree along with some other rats. Cluny lived but the other rats that fell died instantly.
When Matthias got back, Methuselah had found some secret writing where the tapestry had once been. It was a riddle that said "Who says that I am dead, Knows nought at all. I-am that is, two mice within Redwall, The warrior sleeps, 'Twixt hall and cavern hole, I-am that is, Take on my mighty role. Look for the sword, In moonlight streaming forth, At night, when day's first hour reflects the North From o'er the threshold, Seek and you will see; I-am that is, My sword will wield for me". Methuselah and Matthias spent a while trying to figure out what it meant. Methuselah discovered that "I-am that is" meant I Matthias when you unscrambled the letters.
He also found that one of the lines was talking about the staircase in Redwall. Methuselah and Matthias went to the staircase and thought about the riddle more. Somehow they figured out that they needed to remove the middle step, so they hat the moles take it out. After the stair was removed, they found a tunnel. At the end of the tunnel they found Martin's tomb. By the tomb they found his shield and his belt that held the sword but the sword wasn't there.
That night, they had set the shield down where the Riddle had instructed them to. They waited until midnight when the full moon was up. The reflection from the shield went to the weather vane on top of the abbey. That was the place of Martin's sword. Matthias decided to climb up to the vane and rest retrieve the sword.
Before he went Miss Squirrel tried to get it but she was attacked by sparrows. One of the Redwall archers hit one sparrow and it fell down. Matthias befriended Warbeak and she helped him get to the top of the abbey to talk to King Bull Sparra. Long ago the sparrow folk had stolen the sword from the weather vane but King Bull Sparra had lost it in the woods when he was attacked by the adder snake called Asmodeus.
Warbeak told the king that Asmodeus had died so the king left. While the king was away, Matthias stuck into his nest and stole the sword scabbard from the king. As Matthias started climbing down, the king returned and was infuriated because the snake wasn't really dead. When the king saw that Matthias was stealing the scabbard, he attacked him and made Matthias fall from the roof. The king was caught on Matthias's belt so he fell with him. The king died but Matthias lived.
While Matthias was on the roof, Miss Squirrel and Basil the Rabbit stole the tapestry of Martin back from Cluny. Cluny had hired a fox to heal him from the fall. The fox stole some of Cluny's plans that said he was going to build a battering ram to break into the abbey, Cluny found out that she stole them and told her that his real plan was to dig under the wall. Cluny had some of his rats beat her to death. The rats dumped her in a ditch after they thought she was dead. When the rats left, she crawled to the abbey and told the Abbot about the digging plan.
The fox was then sent to the healing room. Matthias stuck out again to try and find Asmodeus and kill him to get the sword back. On his way, he met some shrews called The Guerrilla Union of Shrews. They decided to help Matthias get the sword back because they wanted Asmodeus dead because he was a danger to them.
When Matthias found the tunnel of Asmodeus he stuck all the way in with Log-a-log to find the snake. Matthias saw the sword and he had to sneak all the way around the sleeping snake to get it. When Log-a-log saw the dead body of one of his friends, he screamed and woke up the snake. Matthias had to fight Asmodeus and ended up cutting the snake's head off. Cluny had launched his next attack while Matthias was away.
The citizens of Redwall already knew of the battering ram and the tunnels so they were prepared. They dropped a barrel of wasps on the battering ram which made the rats run away. Then they dropped oil on it so the rats wouldn't be able to pick it up. The moles were listening to the rats digging the tunnel and they knew exactly where they were going to come up, so they had giant pots of boiling water dumped on the rats when they came up and then they collapsed the tunnel by jumping on it. The mice of Redwall still hadn't figured out Cluny's third plan. It was a siege tower that acted like stairs for Cluny's horde to climb up on to the wall.
When one of the cooks, Cornflower, was giving out meals to the soldiers on the wall, she saw the siege tower pop out of the forest right next to the wall. She was surprised and accidentally threw her lamp onto to the tower which sent it up into flames. All the rats ran back to their camp. Cluny had captured a family of field mice and sent the father in to unlock the abbey's gates. If he refused, Cluny would kill his family. The guards let him in and later during the night, the father field mouse unlocked the gate.
All of Cluny's horde stuck into Redwall and tied everyone up. Just as Cluny was going to kill the Abbot, Matthias came back with one thousand sparrow warriors and five hundred of the Guerrilla Union of Shrews. Matthias fought with Cluny and ended up cutting the abbey's big bell and it fell on Cluny. The sparrows and the Guerrilla Union of Shrews had more than enough animals to defeat the rats. Cluny had mortally wounded Abbot Mortimer and he was dying. Before he died he said that Brother Alf would become the next Abbot, Matthias would become the champion of Redwall and Matthias would marry Cornflower.
All of those things happened and Matthias and Cornflower had a baby named Matti meo. Kevin Frasier 4/17/05.
