Teachers Philosophy example essay topic
Philosophy could be a persons beliefs. Philosophy dates back a long time. It started with Plato talking about platonic forms, moving onto Socrates who used analogies. Others such as Locke, Rousseau, and Dewey also put our their views of philosophy.
To me philosophy is a way of thinking, believing, and understanding. It could begin with learning how to interpret things and explore their meanings so that they make sense. I feel that a persons philosophy can help them when making judgements. One can learn and understand insights to a subject or a dilemma. It can help with their formation of thoughts and ideas. Philosophy is not just about the facts.
The facts are put together to make something significant. The facts don't necessarily make up a persons way of thinking either. A way of thinking is based on what is seen and heard in the world around the viewer. When it comes to a persons thinking, the study of philosophy could help with abstract thinking, clarity and order. It could produce a study of oneself through questions, not answers. People could understand the reasoning behind things and they can discover different kinds of thinking.
They learn to think about and understand perspectives that are both simple and complex. So what does philosophy have to do with the teacher's experience? As a student studying to become a teacher myself I feel that philosophy is a vital in my attempt to understand myself and my relation to society as a whole. Every teacher needs to understand themselves and their relation to society so that they can understand the children they teach coming from every possible background and family life. Philosophy teaches people how to think. It teaches you, me and others how to find ourselves, how to figure out who we are and how to figure out our ideas.
Understanding philosophy helps me initiate conversations and interact with other's well-being. It does the same for teachers. It helps them to be able to communicate and hold conversations with students and other teachers. Since philosophy is a way of interacting and teaching one another.
So it not only helps teachers teach but it helps students to teach one another. Philosophy can take a certain mindset into the classroom that will guide students into abstract thought, so that they may explore and question what they read and what is going on in the world around them, not just to accept everything. A teaching style will come from philosophy. Because there are no right answers, it allows for an open-minded atmosphere in the classroom.
Students are more apt to participate in an atmosphere where their thoughts and questions help carry the class to an understanding of the world and each other. Personally, to me, philosophy helps me to communicate and see abstractly which will be good because I am planning on becoming a teacher myself. It will help me communicate with children and see where they are coming from. It will also allow me to learn from my students every day.
It will help me to teach students that there are different theories and points of view other than mine. It also helps me to realize that there are many points of views dealing with society and education. For teachers it's important to realize sometimes that there are no right answers to questions and they must set an example to their students, to analyze sometimes and to actually think about the topic discussed. In order to become a better educator, ones mind should be open to different perspectives and theories. From this openness they will have a more enhanced opportunity to learn. A teachers points and views are what will be coming out in their teaching, therefore views need to be not too narrow and have a variety of aspects to them.
This is what the kids they will be teaching can learn from them. Philosophy will help a teacher form their own base or pyramid of beliefs which make them the teacher they become. Their philosophy will reflect how they teach, the way they teach and what they teach. It can provide them with the background on how to teach in order for children to learn. A teachers philosophy gives them an understanding of the world, life, etc, before they can teach others. Theories on the minds and thinking of students must be well-known by their teacher and past studies and points of views of this knowledge can help the teacher be successful.
It helps them understand how the students see things and understand them. A teacher should pick a method of teaching that they believe in just as philosophers stayed by the ideas that they believed in. Locked believed to teach someone to reason you have to reason with them. Dewey used role-play. He showed each side of knowledge and self-realization.
As a teacher they should influence each and every individual they come across in their career. Their philosophies may be rooted to the first person who opens their eyes to ways in which they should think. Without a philosophy there is no focal or central point to your teachings.
