Teenager's Feelings Towards Adults example essay topic

The dictionary defines the word teenager as a person in his / her teens. But now in our society it seems that the definition of teenager is delinquent. I think that adults and other teenagers and society as a whole has stereotyped teens as being rude, loud and just plain deficient. I want to talk about how teens are treated as a whole.

You know the Skaters, punks, rappers, preps, jocks, freaks, Goths and cheerleaders; by just the way they dress they automatically have a certain attitude. I now want to tell you how teens like myself are being treated in society everyday. Everyday and every where in this country teens are not being treated with respect. One day when I was walking into a department store to look for a pair of pants.

For about 10 minutes no one had said or asked if I needed help. Finally annoyed I went and asked the store clerk for help to get into the dressing room. I then tired them walked out but only to find that the clerk has lefts and was not going to come back and tell me her opinion. I then went back changed and brought the pants top the same clerk who had only opened the dressing room for me then started to walk out she then called from behind me "your don't like them?" I then ignored her comment and kept walking till I had left the store.

Then about two weeks later I was shopping when I told my mother about these pants that I had seen and she said if the price was right she would purchase the pants for me. We then proceeded into the store when I then noticed that the two weeks before I had come in that 2 of the three were the same when I had visited. When walking in with my mother we were greeted with "hello" and "How are you". I then went got the pants and presented them to my mother she checked the price said they seems nice and the price was right but wanted to see what they looked like on. But before I would try them on we would get a shirt to match. As we were looking not being in the store anymore then five minutes the same store clerk who had severed me came over and asked if I wanted to try the pants on.

I'm not complaining all I am getting at is that I have to be an adult to receive good service or come in with one of my parents? No matter your age teenager, adult or senior we should be treated with the service that any other customer would. At what age dose a teenager become an Adult? What dose it mean to be an adult?

Sure when you " re an adult you wan buy cigarettes and alcohol and you can gamble right? Wrong according to the Charter of Right's and Freedoms you are a child until the age 18. So you are an adult when your 18? So why when you 18 can you only gamble. Society thinks of an adult is someone for is done high school and has a good job or has when to secondary school and has a job. There paying bills supporting themselves or even a family.

But teenagers pay bill's to cell phone bills, car insurance, car repairs or gas money. Teenagers work a part time jobs, they make money and pay bills, so why aren't thought who do work are not considers adults? Because they are not 18? Age is only a number people say but wow were they wrong. To get respect I have to be 18 or at the age 0 f 18. I should be starting to get respect.

And even now teens are starting to move out and live on there own a younger age groups out of school and working full time to keep there apartment and to pay the bills, some even stay in school and work which is a lot harder then most people think. Then adults looked down on teens for this but really were just trying to make a living like any other adult dose! But because we are teens we can't get credit because we are not adults and we need an adult to sign for us for a telephone or to even get well-fare. So really we are told we have so much freedom I guess you don't have freedom until you " re an adult.

What are teenager's feelings towards adults? I know as a teenager I always think that adults think I'm always in the wrong, good for nothing and they think there always right. But when doing research for my speech I was corrected. I asked 6 different adults what there feeling were about teens and they replied with the following "Teenagers are kids" They need to act more mature"As long as there responsible and mature I don't have a problem with them"The bad ones make the good ones look bad"There trouble makers"There humans just like you and I" I didn't think I would get this many adults not having that much of a problem with teenagers. But then I thought well what do teenagers think about adults. I asked friend and fellow classmates and this was the response I got...

"They hardly ever take us seriously"They are to strict"They are to hard on us and are living in the past"They don't believe in us"No matter now hard you try to do you best it's never good enough"They want you to be more responsible, but when you try to take on more responsibilities they make you ask yourself if you can do it and question your confidence". So really the teens have more of a problem with the adults then the adults do with the teens. But maybe it's because when the teens say this they are referring to there parents? I could stand here and rant about how teens are mistreated but there are other misunderstood age groups such as Children and the elderly. Children don't get respect because they are suppose to look up too adults and do as they say. With the saying that goes "A child should be seen but not heard.

Children should have an input with in reason on what they have to and don't want to do. The elderly are too old to do anything thing for themselves and have to rely on adults to help them out. But you think that the elderly would get more respect because they have lived here longer and been through a lot more. So it seems to deserve respect in this you have to between the ages of (19-49) an adult. So really our society respects adult more then any other age group and you want to know why... there are more people in the adult age group then any other age group in our society out of 100% almost 50%.

After asking adults what there feelings were towards teenagers you get the feeling that teenagers have more responsibilities then adults did when they were teenagers. Also living conditions have changed to drive buy shooting, people being stabbed and the crime rate has increased. Many adult say that's there reasons for being over protective and worrying so much. (or being strict) It isn't the same anymore. You can't walk around some parts of town at 12 at night with out getting grabbed and attacked. Or they don't want there children to make the same mistakes they did when they were younger. But parents have to realize that they can't save us from everything we have to be free to make out own mistakes.

And remember just because 3 people rob a store between the ages of 15-17 doesn't mean all teens are going to do the same or be the same. Maybe teens have the wrong idea about how adults think. But maybe adults have a bad idea on how teenagers act. Yes some teenagers do bad things but so do adults and children and even the elderly. So why when it's a teen why should we stereotype teens as being horrible people who do nothing but wrong, but then an adult dose something wrong adults are not given that bad name?

Maybe we should all be treated equal... or maybe every age group should stop stereotyping each other and we could all get along.
