Wrong type of programming and too many hours watching television can cause negative affects on children for their mental and physical development. Children are being exposed to and influenced by the offensive and objectionable content that has become common on television nowadays. Most of the programs that contain violent and inappropriate scenes are shown during the day, so it is more likely for a child to watch. Viewing extreme violence and abusive content may prompt children to take up similar activities. It is well known that children are easily influenced by what they see or hear. They often try to imitate their favorite actor or character, the way he talks or treats the people around him, and they end up adopting aggressive and offensive behavior.

There are many children who get involved with fights in school because since they watch someone on television solving a problem using violence they think it is the best way. Another factor that has a bad influence on children is the commercials that are constantly being thrown at them. Children are immature and more vulnerable to the influence of commercial advertise so they don't have the capacity to evaluate it critically and as a result they pressure their parents to buy products such as cereal and toys. Many children spend too much time watching television and as a result they fail to keep up with their academic work. Kids, by the time they return home from school until the time they go to sleep they just want to watch their favorite shows without caring if they had studied or not their homework.

It is proven that children who watch television more than 10 hours a week are more likely to be overweight, aggressive and slower learners in school. Finally, the most important effect of television is on kids' health. T. V is not an activity that helps children to develop their bodies and brains. It is important for children to play, read, and talk with other children and adults for healthy development. Watching television for many hours and sitting too close to it or keeping the T. V room poorly illuminated may cause certain health hazards like impairing eye sight. Many children have the habit to eat too much junk food while they watch too much television. Those are the two major causes for obesity.

Too much T. V viewing can have adverse affects, aggressive and offensive behavior, poor school performance and obesity. In order to prevent this from happening children must be guided and monitored properly from their parents. Parents must teach their kids how to balance their viewing habits with other activities such as reading, seeing a play, studying their homework or spending time with their friends.
