Terrell And Jonathan example essay topic

2,090 words
Momma was upset when she found out that I wasn't the only black kid in my school. One of the reasons that she moved to South Jersey was to get me away from the black kids, as if I weren't one of them. It was so bad that momma had me checking my skin color. Sometimes I even forgot that I was a black girl originally from Newark, New Jersey. But, I was thankful that there were other black kids in the school besides me. It felt good seeing other people that looked liked me.

I was especially thankful for Terrell. She was smart, funny, and cool to hang with. She was into just about everything that I was into. We liked the same music, movies, and clothes. Terrell and I quickly became best friends. Momma of course wasn't happy with that.

She would always ask me, "Christina, why are you hanging with that black girl?" Of course, I would look at her like she was crazy, because once again she had me checking out my complexion. But, I just choose not to pay momma any mind. Telling myself that she was crazy seemed to be the best way to handle it. After a few years had gone by momma realized that Terrell wasn't going anywhere, so she let it go. Terrell and I were inseparable. We did everything together.

We even shared our first kiss with each other. It was junior high. I had to have been about thirteen at the time. Well Terrell and I were walking home from school, and Jonathan and Stanley ran up behind us.

I wasn't really interested in talking to them, but Terrell had a crush on Jonathan. Stanley, like me, but for some reason he just didn't float my boat. Jonathan and Stanley were typical white boys. They reminded me of Brandon and Steve from 90210. Anyway, Terrell morphed into this creature that I was not familiar with. All of a sudden she became this giggly, goofy, fool.

Everything that Jonathan said seemed to be funny, but I must have missed the joke, because I wasn't laughing. They asked us if we wanted to go to the park with them. Terrell said yes, without a second thought. And me being a fool, followed right behind her.

When we got to the park I noticed that Terrell and Jonathan were walking way ahead of Stanley and I. Jonathan even had his arm around Terrell. Stanley tried to pull that one me, but I wasn't having it. We made it to this huge tree in the back of the park. This tree had many carvings that declared forever love. As a matter of fact, it was known as the make out tree. I guess that is because it was impossible for anyone to see what you were doing back there.

Well, Jonathan must have been interested in adding Terrell's and his name to the tree, because out of no where he shoved his tongue down her throat. I stood there in disgust waiting for Terrell to smack the shit out of him. But, she didn't. She went right along with it. It was so nasty. You could tell that neither one of them knew what they were doing.

Stanley on the other hand caught a sudden case of dumb-ass disease, because he tried to pull the same stunt on me. Unlike Terrell, I was not trying to share saliva with Stanley. I smacked that boy so hard that he didn't know what hit him. This started the war between Stanley and I, because from that day on every time Stanley spoke of me, I was known as the black bitch. Stanley was the least of my worries.

I still had to deal with momma. Junior Prom was coming up and she kept harassing me about who I was going to go with. Honestly, I didn't want to go with any of the guys in my school. They were all corny in my eyes. But, the lord works in mysterious ways.

Roland Andrews was brought to me. Roland worked at the food court in the mall. He went to another high school in another town, but he would take two buses just to get to the mall to work. Well we met one afternoon when I was hanging out with Terrell.

Every time we went to the mall we would stop at the food court and get a honey bun from the honey bun stand. They were delicious. I couldn't get enough of them. As a matter of fact, Terrell decided to make a few jokes saying, "You'd better watch it. You know your momma told you that your butt is getting too big".

We just laughed. Besides, I was happy with my figure. A lot of the girls I went to school with were forcing themselves to puke, just so they could fit into a cheerleading skirt. I didn't want to be like them, so as usual I ignored momma. I must have been tearing that honey bun up, because I had no idea that I had icing on the tip of my nose. Terrell was laughing hard, but she didn't tell me what she was laughing at until this chocolate brown guy appeared.

He was wearing a green and white uniform that said maintenance. His hair was filled with tiny soft curls, and he his smile was pearly white. He walked towards the table and said, "I guess you don't want to share". I didn't know what that meant, until he took one of my napkins and wiped my face with it.

I didn't mind. I was so caught up in his smile and dark brown eyes that I had no idea that I looked like a slob. Terrell kicked the shit out of me and awoke me out of my comma. She then looked at him and said her name is Christina, and I am Terrell. He then sat down beside me and said, "What's up, I'm Roland. I don't see much of you " ll out here in these parts.

Are you " ll from out here?" I decided to answer that one, "Well I am originally from Newark, but Terrell was born and raised out here. We go to Randolph High, I've never seen you there". Roland smiled, and said, "that's because I don't go there, I live in Camden". This amazed me, so I responded with "So you travel back and forth to Camden just to work here?" Still smiling he said, "Yup!" We then sat there and talked about all kinds of things, until Roland's manger started to call him.

He said goodbye, but before he left he handed me his phone number. That same night I waited for momma to go to sleep so I could call Roland. We stayed on the phone until two in the morning. I really enjoyed talking to him. I never talked to any guy the way that I had talked to him.

The only person that I had been able to talk to for that long was Terrell. It was getting late, and I need to get some sleep so we said our goodbyes. But before we hung up, Terrell asked if I would come visit him next weekend. I was a little skeptical, but I decided to go ahead.

I just had to figure out a lie to tell momma. All week I tried to think of a story to tell momma. It was hard trying to get away from her. She always managed to keep a tight reign on me.

Finally Terrell and I came up with the perfect lie. We decided that the best lie to tell momma was to say that I was going to spend the day with Terrell's family in Pennsylvania. I knew momma wouldn't want to go, because she barely associated with her own. It was only Thursday, so I had to make this lie sound believable. This lie had to be present in a manner that was un disputable. Besides, I knew momma would probe me, so I had to be prepared.

I stood in the mirror for an hour rehearsing line after line. And, I also prepared myself for any possible rebuttals. When I heard her car pull into the drive way I knew I was ready. When she walked in the door I ran downstairs and greeted her with a smile saying, "Hello Momma!" She said, "Hello", but look at me like I had lost my mind. The twins ran in almost knocking her to the ground. They were almost three years old now, and I couldn't wait for their birthday to arrive.

Their terrible twos were working my nerves. Honestly the twins were spoiled rotten. And, momma was the main culprit. George didn't say anything. He never said anything.

George just wanted to keep momma, the twins, and me happy and quiet. I waited for her to take her coat off and have a seat on the couch. I knew she was tired, so I didn't want to bombard her as soon as she walked through the door. The twins took their coats off and took their usual spot on the carpet in front of the television. After hesitating for about fifth teen minutes I finally said, "Momma, Terrell's family is taking a trip to Pennsylvania on Saturday, can I go?" At first she didn't say a word, she just sat on the couch and pretended as if she didn't hear me. So I said, "Momma, did you hear me?

I asked if I could go with Terrell's family to Pennsylvania this weekend". After listening to me wine for about two minutes she said, "Christina, you can go, but you have to be back at a reasonable time". I was so happy. This was easier than I thought it would be. I jumped up and kissed her on the cheek and ran upstairs to call Terrell.

It seemed like Saturday took forever to come. But when it arrived I was up first thing in the morning preparing for my visit with Roland. I made sure that I had gotten at least eight hours sleep because I didn't want to have any bags hanging from my eyes. I also took about two hours in the bathroom just so I could get my hair curled perfectly. Momma was famous for calling me nappy head, but I liked my thick hair.

Of course I had a relaxer at the time, but the relaxer would only last but for so long. I don't know what it was, but that morning my caramel skin was glowing. I looked as if someone had just handed me a million dollars. Daddy had just brought me a pair of brand new levis that hugged just a little bit in the hip area. He wanted to take them back after I tried them on, but I begged him to let me keep them.

I decided to wear my Levis and a white shirt with my white Reebok's. I looked good, and I was just about ready to leave when I turned around and saw momma standing in my doorway. I thought to myself, "shit, she knows". I thought I was a goner, but she only wanted to make sure that I was taking a jacket with me.

Finally, I was out of the house. I thanked GOD that momma didn't offer to drive me to Terrell's house. As soon as I got to the bus stop the bus arrived and I was on my way to meet up with Roland. I only had two more buses to go..
