Many major industries like Manufacturing and Service industries involve many parties engaging in projects between themselves. Communication becomes vital between parties engaged in a project. The larger the value of money and the larger number of participants in the project, the larger scale it will be. Construction industry is simply one of the most complex and one with the most number of personnel in it. A typical construction Project would include the Client and their employees, the Consultants namely, the Architect, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Land Surveyors, Clerk-of-Works; the Contractor, Subcontractor, Suppliers and their workers.

Each party has their own priority and objectives out of the same project. This resulted in the industry becoming highly complex and one that is plagued with problems of low productivity and legal implication. The main needs of the industry is to have a good network of communication between parties whereby any design and construction plans, changes, additions and alterations are properly informed to all parties concerned. The Architect uses their program to manage their design part of the project without any of such passed to the Contractor. The Contractor on the other hand does their part of construction with their own project management software or planning schedule. Any changes required by the Client or the Architect will take time to reach the Contractor.

If such changes actually affect the progress of construction works, the contractor would need to inform the Architect with justifications for an extension of time and in some case, an addition to the agreed contract sum. This process is more often time-consuming and straining to the parties work relation. However if there is a shared information storage where the Architect and Engineers design details are loaded and the various instructions, Works schedule updates and even subcontractors and suppliers works and deliveries are updated in it for everyone to know, many problems mentioned can be minimized. As such the Computer integrated Construction can be proposed.
