Theodore Roosevelt And Woodrow Wilson example essay topic
These two men had a special bond with their fathers, which a lot of people never acquire throughout their whole lives. Being so close with a father has helped both of these men succeed at their positions in life. Something else they shared was that they both unfortunately suffered the deaths of their first wife's. Teddy Roosevelt's wife, Alice, died on the same day as his mother did. Woodrow's wife, Ellen, also passed early on. Both men felt turmoil and despair in these passings, and both were actually depressed for sometime about these deaths.
Although both men were affected very traumatically over their wives passings, they both eventually remarried and found that life's filled with happiness. A third similarity between these two fine presidents would be their terrific speaking ability. Both men were absolutely terrific orators. They were passionate about the issues and got involved in all affairs. They were speakers who could motivate a crowd, everybody listened when Teddy or Woodrow spoke.
Some presidents are the type to not really care all that much. And just have people write out speeches for them, but T.R. and Woodrow really cared about what they were saying Both men had a special quality about them that was brought out in the way they presented themselves and spoke. It was easy for the average American to relate to these men. Although it seems hard to imagine, these men were also very different. They were very much alike in a lot of ways, but indeed they did have strong differences in personality and opinions.
To start, on difference is that T.R. was an advocate of war and liked everything about it. Perhaps the reason for this is because his father did not fight in the Civil War and Teddy was embarrassed. He supported war and even led his own calvary, the Rough Riders, in the Spanish-American War. Woodrow wouldn t do anything to stay out of war.
German subs sank an American ship and the U.S. didn t enter the war because Wilson wanted to keep the peace. Wilson did everything in his power to keep the U.S. neutral, but when German subs sank 3 American ships, he eventually had to enter the war. Although we did enter the war, it was for a very short period of time. Woodrow really disliked war and did everything to stay clear of it.
The most obvious difference between the two is that T.R. was a Republican while Woodrow was a Democrat. These two men, who share many similarities, were actually opposing political parties. It's hard to imagine, but it's T.R. ue. My last difference between these two men is the way they came into presidency. T.R. was forced into the presidency after the untimely assassination of William McKinely, while Woodrow Wilson ran for it and was originally elected. T.R. came into the presidency abruptly and didn t like the way he entered, while Wilson went in anxious to begin. Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson were great men, they indeed have many similarities and also many differences.
They helped this country out tremendously during the times they served. It may be better to have a variety but these men are two of a kind. They have good values and ideas and have made many contributions to our country.
