Every event is significant to history, if one event is taken away then many events after that time would be altered. The thinkers of the Enlightenment played a major role in American history. With their ways of thinking they caused the people of the colonies to revolt against the motherland, Great Britain. In the 18th century many great thinkers arose causing what is now known as the Age of Enlightenment.

These great thinks are called philiosophes. The philiosophes believed that the government needed to be changed. They thought it was the duty of the government to protect the people, act on what they want, and should not forced things not wanted. Among these thinkers was John Locke, an well-educated English man. He had 3 main beliefs that people should have: life, liberty, and property.

He said that the government should protect the people and all the government power comes from the people. These ideas eventually got to the ears of the Colonists living in America. With their growing hostility at the British government for its unjust taxes (i.e. stamp act, navigation acts, tea act) and unfair treatment they go to war. In 1775 on April 19th the 1st shot of the American Revolution was fired. In 1776, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. He wrote it based on the ideas of John Locke and the Enlightened Thinkers.

Without the Thinkers of the Enlightenment, America would probably be very different. We would not have the government we have now or the freedom. Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Patrick Henry, are people who played a very vital role in the American Revolution, were influenced by the ideas of the Enlightenment. Without them we might not have won the war. In conclusion, every event is significant to history. You can not get from A to Z without going through the rest of the alphabet, which means you need 1 point to make it to the next, and that point to the next and so on.
