Greenpeace Historical Background The Greenpeace organization was formed in 1971 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It was originally formed to stop nuclear testing in a small island called Amchika in Alaska. A small group of people sailed from Vancouver to Alaska in a small fishing boat determined to stop the testing. Mandate / Mission StatementGreepeace's mission is to stop oil drilling in the ocean, halt the killing of all species (mostly endangered ones), nuclear testing, pollution, and other threatening things to the environment.

In other words, their purpose is to create and GREEN and PEACEful environment. Structure There are four departments in the Greenpeace Canada structure. These departments are Campaigns, Development, Finance, and the Executive Directors Office. Campaigns There are three Greenpeace Canada campaign offices.

There is one in Toronto, Ontario, one in Vancouver, British Columbia, and another in Montreal, Quebec. Development The department of development organizes all the public education activities and fundraising. Finance Finance obviously keeps track and handles all the income and outcome of the organization. Executive Director's Office The Greenpeace Canada Executive Director's Office is the Canadian communication central to other Greenpeace offices around the world. This office also includes human resources staff and office management. Funding Greenpeace receives funding by signing members by mail, phone and door votes.

Greenpeace also receives funding from life insurance when some members of the organization die. Canada's Involvement Canada has offices all over Canada supporting Greenpeace and raising money for it. It is a governmental involvement. Impact of the Organization on the World Community Greenpeace has affected the world by saving hundreds of animals, stopping many oil drillings in the sea, making drinking water cleaner, stopping numerous nuclear testing, and many other things to help the earth. Assessment of the Effectiveness of the Organization Yes, Greenpeace has brought about many changes in the world.

For example there is less nuclear testing in the earth, especially in areas where there is a high amount of endangered species. Yes, it has also made a difference, the earth is cleaner because of recycling, more recyclable products are made, etc. Assessment of the Effectiveness of Canada's Involvement Yes, Canadians have made a difference. Canadians were the ones who stopped the Amchika, Alaska nuclear testing, they were the ones who parachuted onto the worlds largest nuclear power plant construction site in Darlington, Ontario, they also were the ones who placed themselves underneath a U.S. nuclear-capable battleships anchor making it so the battleship couldn't dock.

Canadians have also played many other roles on making a difference to the world. Role of the Organization in the Future believe that Greenpeace will still exist in twenty years, because they have done so many things that are good for the environment for the past twenty-seven years. I think they " re mandate will stay the same because it hasn't changed so far.
