Lara is also going to live with her father's new family that she has never met. Larry her father has a new wife. 'Lara has the impression that the Man will care for and look after her, saving her from his wife and kids. ' ; When Lara eventually meets her new stepmother, her half-brother and half-sisters, she immediately knows that she is not wanted and that they hate her. So Lara thinks that the Man will look after her and save her from his family. This is further denial of the pain and loneliness she feels.
Thunderwith the novel expresses a young girl grieving over her mother's death. Soon afterwards Lara meets a dog. She decides to call it Thunderwith because she thinks that it is a gift sent down by her mother. Lara is so happy that she can have one moment of happiness.
'She had just met Thunderwith and somehow by caring about him meant she didn't care about being by herself. She 'was not really alone at all-Thunderwith was in her thoughts. ' ; Lara can not handle her mother's death so she tries to block out her grieving about her mother's death. Thunderwith has entered her life and she can think happy thoughts and not feel alone and upset. When Thunderwith is with her she doesn't need to care anymore about being alone. The main character Lara is in denial of her mother's death, and tries to block it out.
As time went by Lara went through a lot of things from Gladwin. Pearl also didn't like Lara. The other little children accepted Lara and enjoyed having her as a sister, but she was still going through a tough time getting over her mother's death. She also feels so weak without her mother there beside her. 'Lara closed her eyes and clenched her fists. She would block it all out.
' ; Lara still hasn't dealt properly with her pain, so Lara tries to block her mother's words out of her mind because it hurts too much to think about her without being able to be strong without her. Lara is also expressing anger towards her mother. Lara is not coping with her mother's death. Grieving takes time, but Lara will eventually overcome her mother's death. Eventually Lara learns to overcome and put her mother's death behind her. Her mother was gone and Lara had finally accepted it.
Lara can now get on with her life. Lara can feel strong and happy. 'Lara knew at last that the big black bird she feared was no longer there. But nor was Mum.
' ; From the first day of her mother's death, Lara has been grieving over her, not accepting that she is no longer with her, and she would never come back. She has put an end to her sadness, grieving and depression. Lara has finally accepted her mother not being there anymore. She feels that she can go on with her life without her mother and still keep the happy times they both shared together. Grieving heels in time, the experience is tough, but we all learn something from it. And in Thunderwith Lara has learnt that her mother is gone and she won't ever be coming back.
Lara will still feel pain and grief in her life, but not as much as she did throughout the novel. In conclusion, this novel explains the stages of grieving from a young girl's point of view. Lara could not accept her mother not being there throughout the novel, but then towards the end she finally realizes her mother is gone, and she won't be coming back. Grieving takes time to overcome.
Lara went through a lot, until she accepted her mother's death, which was very hard to do.
