Time Changes Perspectives example essay topic

Good afternoon. I have been invited here today to speak on the topic of changing perspectives, and essentially how time changes perspectives. As life goes on, change is unavoidable. Time and experience allow us to develop and change our attitudes and perceptions of everything: people, events, ideas, and even ourselves. As time goes on a change of heart and in our way of thinking is inevitable, due to education, different experiences, and situations we find ourselves in. To understand this idea that change is a natural part of growing up, you could try thinking of the things you considered important when you were four or five.

Now think about what is important to you now. Can you see how in a period of time, your perspective will change in a reasonably unnoticeable way. This occurs in almost every aspect of your life. The main text that you have studied this year, "Looking for Ali brandi", is filled with thoughts and ideas relating to change. Melina Marchetta helps to shape our view on this concept of change and changing perspective through many different events in her novel. The majority of this change and changing perspective is shown through the central character, Josephine.

One such event Marchetta has used to help shape our view on change and changing perspective is when Josephine meets her father, Michael Andretti. Initially, before Josephine has even met her father, she detests him for the fact that she feels that he deserted her mother when she fell pregnant, disregarding his responsibility as a father. However, while she did not let on to him, upon their first meeting Josephine gets the impression he is a decent enough guy. her perspective of him changed within moments of meeting him. Her perspective was then altered further as she began to see him as more of a father figure. After getting into a fight at school with Carly Bishop. To avoid legal action from Carly's father, Josephine says her father is a lawyer and he is called up and asked to come to the school.

Surprisingly, he arrives and the whole thing is sorted out. As Josephine is walking along side her father, it is at this moment when she has a change of perspective. For the first time she discovers, and I quote "how it felt walking alongside one's father. It was a great feeling". In both cases Marchetta has demonstrated that a change of perspective can be triggered by a singular event.

Many changes are, however, made by simply growing older. The physical impact of time is a change in itself. In "Sky-high" from the HSC stimulus booklet, Hannah Robert writes in first person of a woman who was once a young girl, swinging on the washing line. The mood of this text is nostalgic as the woman envisions the past when she was younger and so much different then she is today. It is apparent that the woman wishes that she could still swing on that washing line as the little girl once did, yet so many things have changed that it would be much harder for her.

She says "The inclination is still there... but it is unlikely the washing line could support me this time. There are too many things tying me to the ground". The woman's perspective of the washing line has changed from the child who felt she was flying when hanging from the skeleton arms. She now sees the washing line for its practical use, a place to hang clothes while they dry, and although she has a small urge to swing off the clothesline, as a rational adult she realises that this would be irresponsible and that the clothesline would no longer support her weight. As time goes on changes inevitably occur. Technology is a prime example of this.

People's knowledge of various things grow over time, and changes in the world are a result of this. computers are one of the things that have come about due to change. In text five of the stimulus booklet you see a page from a computer program familiar to most people, called Microsoft Encarta. The way we can instantly see pictures and diagrams with a click of the mouse is such a change from books and magazines. It promotes a change in perspective from the viewer or reader due to the fact that so much information is easily accessible, allowing us to be more educated. Through Encarta, in this text, we are shown images and information on fractals. The nature of fractals has forced us to change our perspective on the infinite.

Before, our theory of infinity was that it is unlimited. The ever growing nature of the limit of a fractal has made us change our perspective so that we now can see this infinite limit in a bounded area. Keeping with the topic of change, I was intrigued to learn, when reading an article featured in Health Quest, a quarterly newsletter focusing on mental health issues and concerns, that even though change has always been a part of life it seems that change is happening faster than ever before. The article, titled "Change is inevitable, growth is optional", talks about competition in a global marketplace, technological advances, changing demographics, and the speed of information transfer and how they have had a dramatic impact on how organizations operate. The article states that, "Being able to adapt and respond effectively in a constantly changing world has become a necessary skill". All these texts examine changing perspectives and how time changes perspectives, and how it can effect merely an individual or a group of people.

Thank you for time..
