The prohibition of smoking has become more and more wide spread in the Unite States today. Due to studies that smoking is related to many illnesses, people have made safe guards to prevent from acquiring them. One of those safe guard is prohibiting smoking in public places. Some factors are; the health risks smoking causes, it sets better examples for young adults and children, and foremost, it gives better consideration to those who do not smoke.

Health reasons are at the top of the list to why the banning of smoking in public places has come about. The Surgeon General has stated that smoking increases the risk of respiratory diseases such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis and pulmonary diseases. It has also been shown that, smokers have twice the risk of having heart attacks and not surviving, than do non-smokers. For women, smoking has unique risks.

Women over 35 who smoke and use oral contraceptives are in a high-risk group for heart attack, stroke, and blood clots of the legs. They are also most likely to have a miscarriage or a lower birth-weight baby. Also, if the public place happens to be one with a substantial amount of children, it would be wise to set a good example for them. When asked the majority of smokers say that they don t want their children to smoke, but children who's parents smoke are more likely to start smoking themselves. Most importantly, smoking not only harms your health but of those around you.

Studies have shown that tobacco smoke can cause tobacco smoke in relatively healthy non-smokers It is also related to the sudden deaths of infants. Babies and children raised in a home where there is smoking have more ears infections, colds, bronchitis, and other respiratory problems than children from non-smoking families do. Environmental smoke can also cause eye irritation, headaches, nausea, and dizziness. It also very unpleasant, for most non-smokers, to smell like smoke. Smokin is becoming less socially acceptable now than in the past. Most workplaces have some types of restrictions, and some employers prefer to hire non-smokers.

Landlords, also, may choose not to rent to smokers. Public buildings, concerts, even sporting events are largely smoke-free. And eventually all public places may be.
